West Ham fans react as Trott leaves club on loan

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United announced on Monday that young goalkeeper Nathan Trott would be spending the 2019-20 campaign on loan with AFC Wimbledon.

Trott made 13 Premier League 2 appearances for West Ham’s Under-23 side last season but is yet to make a first-team outing for the Hammers.

The 20-year-old penned a new three-year contract at the London Stadium in March.

And according to a statement on the club’s official website, he ‘is considered one of the country’s brightest goalkeeping prospects’.

Trott will certainly be looking to gain some valuable experience during his time out on loan, where he will link up with former Irons coach Wally Downes.

Rangers fans are pleased to hear the club have extended the contract of Cammy Palmer to the summer of 2021, a one year extension on his previous deal at Ibrox.

The club announced the news on Thursday, with the young midfielder now well placed to try and force his way into manager Steven Gerrard’s long-term plans.

Palmer is a leader on the pitch and in the dressing room at youth level, currently captaining the club’s reserve team, winning the league trophy together last season.

Rangers have withdrawn from the Scottish reserve league for the upcoming season but will test themselves in a series of challenge matches against other sides around Europe.

The 19-year-old will also be looking to impress Gerrard during their training camp in Portugal next week.

Leeds Transfer Roundup: Interest in Luongo, Clarke gets closer to departure, Szmodics news

[ad_pod ]

The last few days have been dominated by Jack Clarke’s impending move to Tottenham, and there has now been another update in that saga. Leeds have also had their eyes on a League One player as well as interest to sign a QPR midfielder. Both of these reports are included in Thursday’s Whites transfer roundup.

Clarke passes medical

According to Sky Sports, Jack Clarke has passed a medical at Tottenham ahead of his move to the north London outfit. The two clubs have already agreed a fee for the player, and there are now just a few small details to sort out before the move is complete.

Bristol City beat Leeds to Szmodics

Bristol City are set to sign Colchester United midfielder Sammie Szmodics, according to Bristol Live, after they fended off late interest from Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United. Despite that, however, Szmodics will join Bristol City for a fee believed to be in the region of £750,000.

Leeds to battle for Luongo

Leeds will battle Nottingham Forest for the signature of QPR’s Massimo Luongo according to London Football News. West London Sport reported on Monday that QPR were looking to sell the Australian, who is capped 42 times, and Leeds and Forest are both interested in his signature.

Have Leeds been ripped off in Clarke deal?

[ad_pod ]

According to reports from The Sun, Jack Clarke will join Tottenham in a deal worth an initial £8.5m which could potentially rise to £13m.

Understandably, that figure has gotten people talking as it is much lower than the £20m Spurs were reportedly quoted earlier in the window.

Many United supporters are furious at this latest update, and you can see why. A number of fans will have been expecting a huge financial windfall when they sold their young talent, but instead, they will be receiving a much lower fee.

The Yorkshire outfit are reportedly operating on a sell before you buy policy, so it is vital for the club to maximise their profits when conducting business of this kind.

But while some Leeds fans may feel they have been ripped off, have they actually? Clarke is unproven at the top level, and he wasn’t even a consistent starter for the Whites last term.

Football FanCast’s writers have had their say as to whether or not Leeds have been ripped off on this deal.

Matt Dawson

“In the modern market you’d certainly expect Leeds to be selling a player like Clarke for more than that. I wouldn’t necessarily say they’d be getting ripped off but it could definitely be seen as poor business. He’s one of their most promising young players, having made 24 league appearances last term, and therefore Spurs would definitely be getting the better end of this deal after the potential he displayed.

I don’t think Leeds would even be able to strengthen their squad too much by taking in a measly £8.5m. If they can bump the transfer fee to something around the £15m mark they’d be far better off for it. At the current rate, they’d be foolish to sell.”

Harry Sherlock

“There are two sides to every negotiation and Leeds have clearly deemed Clarke as being worth £8.5m. It may seem like a paltry figure in today’s market but, really, what exactly is his pedigree? Clarke has played a single season of senior professional football and there’s no reason that any club should have to pay upwards of £10m for him. Spurs, after all, are trying to speculate to accumulate here. Clarke could end up being a genuinely excellent signing, becoming the next youngster to emerge as a brilliant first-team player. Or he could sink without a trace and end up moved on elsewhere. If it’s the former, this looks a terrible deal for Leeds, but really, they can’t ask for any more. It’s a totally fair price.”

Ben Goodwin

“I don’t believe Leeds are being ripped off for Clarke when you consider the total fee including the add-ons, as the youngster has so little first-team experience and none in the top flight. However, it is a little bizarre to me that a side on the brink of something great would accept a deal that effectively limits how much of the fee they can spend this summer. A couple more first-team signings could be just the extra push needed to go one step further to promotion next year, and the full fee up front would have gone a long way to helping that ambition.”

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa shows exactly who’s boss after BBC report

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

According to BBC Sport, Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa could spend as little as 36 hours in Australia as part of the club’s pre-season tour, and has shown exactly who is boss at Elland Road as a result.

On the chalkboard

The Argentine is someone that likes to be in charge of a number of different things at whichever club he is at, and it has been no different with the Yorkshire outfit – he even paid the £200,000 ‘spygate’ fine out of his own pocket.

The expectation from Andrea Radrizzani and those in Oz likely would have been for the 63-year-old to spend the entirety of the trip down under with a full squad, but instead just 16 players are there as things stand with their boss still at home and only joining them on the eve of their friendly clash with Manchester United in Perth on Wednesday, as per The Yorkshire Evening Post.

Football Insider reported last week that Bielsa wasn’t happy about the trip despite knowing about it for a number of months, and he has shown just how much he disapproves with his latest actions – he is also considering missing the clash against the Western Sydney Wanderers on July 20 altogether.

Bielsa’s in charge

The tour may well be good for Leeds from an image and financial point of view, but it’s clear that all the enigmatic South American cares about is making up for a disappointing 2018/19 campaign and winning promotion to the Premier League next term.

Watch fans explain why the Football League is better than the Premier League in the video below…

The fact that he wants to ensure that those players left behind in England – including all of their new signings bar Jack Harrison and anyone that returned to pre-season training after the main group – shows how meticulous he is, and indicates how much of a control freak he can be.

That isn’t necessarily a bad thing though because a club like the Whites need some control, and it shows his determination to ensure that his squad is ready for what is going to be another tough year in the Championship.

With just a few weeks to go until the season kicks off, Bielsa is right to stamp his foot down and show some authority in what is a far from ideal situation, and as a result he is showing exactly who is boss.

West Ham stars Pablo Fornals, Jack Wilshere and Declan Rice flex on media duties

[ad_pod ]

Pre-season is full of chores. Fitness working, technical training, travels to the far side of the world and back, and most importantly, in our new super inter-connected society, media work.

West Ham United may have only recently returned from their brief excursion to China but plans are already well underway to collect an arsenal of appropriate material for next season’s graphics.

Lucky for us all, we caught a glimpse of the exciting behind-the-scenes action at West Ham’s training ground via the club’s Instagram page.

New signing Pablo Fornals, who joined from La Liga side Villareal in June for £24m, looks the part with his salute and presumably we’ll see it in all its glory when he scores.

Jack Wilshere is up next with a hearty fist bump plucked straight from the pirate handbook (argh).

It would be nice to see this graphic in action this season, but the reality is that his knees, or any other part of his frail body for that matter, are likely to literally – not literally – spontaneously combust a few games in, as they have done 15 separate times in his career .

Wilshere’s missed 185 games through injury, in case you were wondering).

Does what it says on the tin. Expect to see this one when a VAR decision is made at the London Stadium, followed by either cheers or groans.

West Ham begin their 2018/19 campaign on August 10th against last year’s champions, Manchester City.

Aston Villa fans delighted with Purslow after latest comments

[ad_pod ]

Christian Purslow has been no stranger to both fans and the media since Aston Villa were promoted.

Back in May, he laid down comments about the state of the club and their ambitions to hold onto Jack Grealish whilst he’s also laid down prior comments regarding the need to build an exciting team.

However, before the club kicked off their pre-season against Minnesota on Thursday morning, he featured in a question and answer session.

Villa’s Chief Executive spoke impressively, talking about a number of things including his attraction to the club and their transfer policy, as well as revealing that whilst he’s been at Villa Park, not a single player has turned them down.

Those responses from Purslow sparked a phenomenal reaction from Villa supporters who reacted to a post on Twitter sharing the interview.

One fan expressed that they were delighted with what he was saying as another said it was absolutely outstanding. A further individual remarked that they loved him.

Purslow arrived at Villa in August 2018, being appointed by owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris as CEO and ‘minority investor’.

Since he came into the Midlands, it seems as though he’s truly worked himself into the hearts and minds of Villa fans.

Here’s what they’ve had to say.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino tipped to leave before end of season

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino does not believe that Mauricio Pochettino will be Tottenham Hotspur manager at the end of the season.

What’s he said?

Pochettino hinted at frustrations with the club’s transfer policy on Tuesday after Real Madrid were beaten 1-0 in a pre-season friendly.

The Argentine claimed that he was not in control of dealings and that his job title should be changed from manager to coach, as he simply coaches the team.

And Cascarino believes that, following a season in which Spurs reached the Champions League final, Pochettino may have taken the club as far as he can.

He said: “We all question whether Frank Lampard will still be at Chelsea by the end of the season and if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will still be Manchester United manager next summer.

“But the one I feel is the more likely to go from the top six first is Pochettino.

“I look at Poch and I just feel from what’s happening and what he’s communicating, I’m not sure he’s going to be there at the end of this season.

“I just don’t see it.

“I think it was as good as it was going to get for them last year, with them getting to the Champions League final.”

He added: “I think there’s an element of frustration that his imprint in the club is still not where he thinks it should be.

“He’s been at the club a long time and they haven’t won anything and there’s frustration in the way he’s talking.

“When he used the words, ‘now my job is the coach’, he’s sort of saying it wasn’t that when he first joined the club and he had a much bigger say on who came in, but now he’s saying he’s just given the players and is coaching them and trying to improve them, which he is doing.”

Smart analysis

Spurs fans won’t like hearing it but Cascarino could well be right.

Now, of course, Spurs have spent a club-record fee this summer to buy Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.

But they have yet to strengthen anywhere else; there have been no signings in defence and none in attacking midfield either, despite the persistent links with Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis.

As it is, Spurs could be heading into the season with a weaker squad than last term.

And that is sure to frustrate Pochettino, who called for a rebuilding job in north London at the end of the 2018/19 season.

One imagines it would be remarkably difficult for Pochettino to find himself sacked – it would surely take an incredible downturn in form – but frustrations could well boil over and the Argentine could take his leave.

It would be a jolt to the system for most Spurs fans but, at the same time, it may not be a surprise.

Liverpool players swarm Roberto Firmino’s Instagram after latest pre-season clash

[ad_pod ]

Roberto Firmino is finally back with the Liverpool squad and he immediately made sure to make his presence known.

The Reds finalised their 2019 summer pre-season friendlies with a 3-1 victory over Olympique Lyon in Geneva. And Jurgen Klopp’s Brazilian was once again on the scoresheet.

Harry Wilson also struck a thunderbolt and Lyon’s Joachim Andersen unfortunately scored an own goal to give the Reds their victory.

[ad_pod ]

After the game, Firmino took to

/B0mDCFvFfrQ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram to celebrate his first game back in the red kit, and he captioned it with just a single red circle that represented Liverpool’s colours.

And he was quickly welcomed back and swarmed by other Liverpool players.

Georginio Wijnaldum was the first one to comment, leaving a couple of fire emojis in the process.

But there were others, like Pedro Chirivella and Adam Lewis, also showing their support to the Brazilian.

Firmino had a slightly longer holiday than most of his teammates as he managed to win Copa America with Brazil.

He also played a big part in getting the crown with a total of two goals and three assists throughout the tournament.

Manchester City star Raheem Sterling rinses Ilkay Gundogan on Instagram

[ad_pod ]

As we slowly but surely approach the start of the new 2019/20 Premier League season, the tension will surely be rising among all the teams.

The heaviest pressure, however, is most likely to be on Manchester City’s shoulders after setting extraordinarily high standards in the past two seasons.

[ad_pod ]

But judging by their players’ social media activity, the spirits at the camp seem to be really high and the Citizens are feeling good ahead of the new challenge that lies in front of them.

Raheem Sterling has recently shared an

/B03iAA9CJxW/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram snap with John Stones from the training grounds and with it, he also threw some banter towards Ilkay Gundogan.

Sterling was seen doing what seems like a special greeting with Stones on the pitch and, by the looks of it, Gundogan just couldn’t figure out what was going on there.

At least that’s the message his rather confused face seemed to convey.

Noticing this, Sterling was quick to banter him for it, asking him “why so mad?” and tagging the player in the process.

Of course, this is just friends having fun, which is definitely something the coach will be happy to see.
