Arsenal fans react to Nicolas Pepe’s home debut against Burnley

[ad_pod ]

Having signed Nicolas Pepe in a club-record deal from Lille, it’s fair to say Arsenal landed one of the biggest transfers of the summer.

The Ivory Coast international was electric for the French side last season, scoring 23 goals and providing 12 assists across all competitions.

Pepe made his competitive debut for the Gunners against Newcastle, but made his first appearance in front of the Emirates faithful when he came on at half-time against Burnley.

The 24-year-old showed flashes of brilliance in his time on the pitch, and most memorably nutmegged centre-back Ben Mee with a delicious piece of skill.

After seeing Pepe’s display, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to reveal their verdicts on the big-money signing.

Many hailed the Ivorian’s direct approach and praised his work in taking the game to the opposition with his dribbling prowess.

Others however refused to get carried away by the winger’s home debut, and one pointed to some of his  passing and shooting as things to work on over the course of the season.

Manchester United fans react to reports Axel Tuanzebe is now third-choice centre-back

[ad_pod ]

Having signed a new long-term contract with the club earlier this summer, Axel Tuanzebe would no doubt have been hoping for a big campaign this season.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive year on loan at Aston Villa last season, helping the Midlands side achieve promotion to the Premier League.

But following his return to Old Trafford, Tuanzebe has seen the Red Devils splash out big-money in bringing England international Harry Maguire to the club.

Reports in recent weeks and months had suggested Tuanzebe could be set for another loan spell away from Manchester as a result, but it now appears the centre-back is very much in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

The Daily Mirror claim that after Maguire and Victor Lindelof, Tuanzebe is now United’s third-choice centre-back, and is ahead of the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo in the pecking order.

After hearing the update on their academy graduate, United fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the matter.

Many hailed the reported decision to promote Tuanzebe ahead of the club’s more experienced centre-backs, and insisted he is “far better than them”.

Indeed, some simply suggested that it is “well deserved” and breathed a sigh of relief that they would no longer be relying on their more error-prone defenders.

Real Madrid’s transfer of Keylor Navas to PSG might help them land Kylian Mbappe in the future

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Reports coming from Paris United have stated that the transfer of Keylor Navas to PSG could have an ulterior motive. They mention that it is a way for Florentino Perez to put himself on good terms with the French club, all with a single purpose: Kylian Mbappe.

What’s the word, then?

The French outlet seems to believe that Navas to PSG is as good as done and his transfer should be made official in the coming days or even earlier than that. The Parisians were seemingly on the lookout for a reliable man between the sticks after Gigi Buffon returned to Juventus and Navas is certainly that.

The great Costa Rican was a part of Real Madrid’s incredible three Champions League wins in a row, manning the goal in all three finals as well as being a big piece in Zinedine Zidane’s first tenure at the club overall. Even though he’s 32 now, Navas is still very much a viable option and should do well in the French capital.

But as Paris United also noted, this deal just might be the first step towards a much bigger piece of business that could happen in the future. Perez just might sneakily be building trust with Nasser Al-Khelaifi, all with a purpose of one day snatching his prised possession away.

A true Galactico

It has been a while since Real Madrid bought a true Galactico, one worthy of the name with both his pedigree, skill and price. Sure, Eden Hazard could be categorised as one but even though buying the Belgian from Chelsea was huge, it would probably not be Mbappe huge.

After all, at just 20 years of age Mbappe is already a three-time Ligue 1 winner, a World Cup winner and a fourth-placed finisher in the Ballon d’Or rankings for 2018 – jumping up from seventh the year prior.

And that’s exactly why Real are so adamant in pleasing PSG, unlike their rivals, Barcelona, who have a notoriously bad relationship with the French team and as a result, they are struggling to get the Neymar deal over the line.

Perez, on the other hand, is taking a different route and also taking a page out of the Catalans’ book. Navas is a step towards building a healthy relationship that maybe eases them into  negotiations for Mbappe when the time is right in the future – Paris United even suggest next summer.

Taking such a highly-valued asset from such a big club will no doubt be difficult but precisely for that reason, Real seem to be laying the foundations now.

Maybe Real Madrid could’ve still used a goalkeeper of Navas’ abilities, but giving him away to PSG is a small price to pay if they succeed in this attempt to snap up Mbappe.

Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso should make a serious impact this season

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Giovani Lo Celso’s cameo against Arsenal suggests he could have a major role to play in Tottenham’s season.

The Argentine was introduced as a second-half substitute with the score at 2-2 in a frantic north London derby.

Coming on for Son Heung-min, the change appeared to be designed to wrestle back some control for Spurs, having thrown away a 2-0 lead. It worked.

Lo Celso, a slick dribbler of the ball, touched the ball just seven times, per WhoScored, but he brought with him an element of calm and tranquillity in a sea of derby noise.

Three of those touches came as he controlled a falling ball on his knee, turned and beat Dani Ceballos, and then earned his team a free-kick as he was bodychecked on the edge of the box.

Throughout his cameo, he appeared to be the most composed player on the pitch and there were signs that he is getting to a level of fitness where he can actually start games, instead of merely influencing them from the bench.

Signed on an initial loan deal from Real Betis in the summer, Lo Celso scored 16 goals in all competitions last season and it is easy to see why.

Against Arsenal, even in a small cameo, Lo Celso showed that he constantly plays with his head up, looking to move the ball forward and progress possession.

He made just four passes throughout the time he was on the pitch but every one of them was accurate and he also managed to make a tackle.

It remains to be seen exactly where he’ll play once he is fresh enough to be featuring from the start – he is not a winger so it is not difficult to imagine Spurs playing both he and Son together – but the signs are encouraging.

With the international break now underway, Spurs have a number of major players set to come back from injury, including Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon, both of whom were also signed in the summer.

When everyone is fit, Mauricio Pochettino has a number of remarkably strong options to choose from.

Lo Celso could play a key role in all of them.

[ad_pod ]According to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira, Arsenal are in talks with Alexandre Lacazette over a new contract at the club. The 28-year-old has found the back of the net on 38 occasions in 91 appearances for the Gunners since arriving from Lyon in the summer of 2017.The Frenchman still has little under three years remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium. However, according to Schira, Arsenal are holding talks with the attacker over a new deal which would run until 2023 and include a pay rise.Lacazette has netted twice in three Premier League appearances this season – including a goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby last weekend.Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Wolves’ Joao Moutinho cuts a dejected figure after more dropped points

[ad_pod ]

For Wolves, their Premier League season has gone from bad to worse.

Failing to be beaten in the Europa League, they are seemingly feeling the effects of that competition starting so early.

From their opening matches domestically, they’re yet to win and have now lost two on the bounce.

They were defeated against Everton two weeks ago but were hammered by Chelsea 5-2 at home on Saturday, a loss that was completely uncharacteristic of a side that picked up 16 points versus the top six last term.

That shows how good Nuno Santo’s men were in the bigger matches in 2018/19 but facing off against the Blues this weekend, they were undone on a regular basis.

Wolves were without Ryan Bennett and the suspended Willy Boly which may have had a say in such a poor defensive display but the image below rather paints a thousand words of how the season has gone so far.

As you can see, three Wolves men stand dejected, rather understandably so after conceding the fourth goal.

Joao Moutinho, in particular, appears frustrated as rather than celebrating yet more points against one of the best sides in the division, they were left to look on as Chelsea ran riot at Molineux.

It was a match and picture that sums up the feeling around Wolves at the moment.

Like some Premier League teams of the past, namely Burnley last season, they’ve struggled with the demands of European football as well as domestic action but even someone as experienced as Moutinho couldn’t hide his disappointment.

Nuno will have to work out a remedy quickly otherwise we may start to see more images like the one above surfacing throughout the campaign.

Liverpool fans fuming after Divock Origi’s ineffective start against Newcastle

[ad_pod ]

After getting the nod over Roberto Firmino on Saturday, Divock Origi’s day for Liverpool failed to really kick into gear.

The Belgium international made just five passes in his time on the pitch, and was forced off with less than ten minutes remaining in the first-half after suffering an injury.

Firmino’s introduction galvanised the Reds, and the Brazilian helped Jurgen Klopp’s side register a comfortable 3-1 victory over Newcastle in the end, thus maintaining their perfect start in the Premier League.

Having seen Origi’s ineffectiveness, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to slam the Belgian’s lack of output.

Many supporters of the Merseyside club called him a “waste of space”, whilst a few insisted he is “over-rated” and “useless”.

Some Reds fans even suggested not turning to Origi completely, and pointed to Firmino’s brilliance over the course of the game.

Liverpool roundup: Klopp provides injury update, pundit claims Liverpool will lose 100% record, Carragher goes in on Suarez

In today’s Liverpool roundup, we take a look at the news doing the rounds for the Reds. Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update ahead of the Sunday showdown against Chelsea, Jamie Carragher blames Suarez for the 2013-14 title loss, and Charlie Nicholas believes Liverpool will lose their 100% record this weekend.

Injury update

Report: As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Naby Keita is back training with the team while Alisson is making “big progress”, although it is “too early to say” as to when he will be back with the first-team, said Klopp. Elsewhere, Divock Origi has not been completely ruled out despite coming off in the 3-1 win over Newcastle United.

Verdict: It seems it is good news for Liverpool on the injury front. Indeed, Keita may not slot into the team immediately as Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho are tough to replace right now. However, with the Champions League ties coming thick and fast and the Carabao Cup soon starting, Klopp will be very happy to see him back fit soon.

As for Alisson, it does seem he may be out for a few more weeks, which could see him miss games against Chelsea, Sheffield United, Red Bull Salzburg, Leicester City and perhaps even the trip to Old Trafford.

Carragher blames Suarez for title failure

Report: When speaking with Sky Sports ahead of the Chelsea fixture, Carragher looked back on the 2-2 draw in 2013 when Luis Suarez bit Branislav Ivanovic. The Reds legend said: “I wasn’t aware of any of this but got back into the dressing room and then word comes in that Luis has bit (Branislav) Ivanovic. Someone asked him and he denied it. I think on that, that it cost Liverpool the league the next season.

“Suarez was banned for five or six games. Liverpool lost the league, I think, on goal difference. Suarez was the best player by a mile in the league, he scored almost every game. In the first four games he missed, Liverpool lost 1-0 to Southampton and drew at Swansea. They dropped five points.

“If Suarez is playing, they probably win both of them,”

Charlie Nicholas backs a draw at Stamford Bridge

Report: In Charlie Nicholas’ predictions for Sky Sports this week, the pundit jotted down a 2-2 draw between the Reds and Chelsea. The ex-Arsenal man said: “I think Frank Lampard wants to attack, which opens up the counter-attack scenario for Liverpool. They both got bad results in Europe through the week, they are making mistakes that they didn’t make last season and you can get at their defence.

“Pedro and Willian behind Tammy Abraham is a trio of danger. They need to find the killer pass in this game, which I think they will. Liverpool will pin them in when they can, but it will be an open game of football, which will see Liverpool drop their 100 percent record.”Verdict: Perhaps if there is anyone out there to beat Liverpool right now, Chelsea could be one of them. Abraham is in outrageously good form, bagging a hat-trick against Wolves and putting himself on seven goals in five Premier League games. And, in a similar vein of form, Mason Mount has three goals in five games, although he remains a doubt for the Blues. As Nicholas alluded to, both sides endured poor results in midweek, with Liverpool losing to Napoli and Chelsea losing to Valencia. However, with injuries to both sides, and the form of Abraham, the Scot may have got this one spot on.

Wolves’ Benny Ashley-Seal can help Fosun’s ambitions ring true

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In The Pipeline series, which takes a look at some of the most promising young talent either linked with clubs or emerging from their academies…

Quite often, the academies of Aston Villa and in particular, West Brom, gain the most attention in the Midlands so much so that Wolves’ cohort of next stars goes under the radar.

And that’s rather harsh considering the array of talent that’s on offer at the club.

You’ve got a pair impressing on loan at Doncaster Rovers in Niall Ennis, who has scored and assisted one goal in five starts, and Cameron John, who has attracted the interest of several Premier League rivals.

Then there are prospects plucked from elsewhere like Bruno Jordao from Lazio and Meritan Shabani, who has featured three times for Bayern Munich’s senior side – both have been making their presence heard for the U23s.

But earlier this week, Benny Ashley-Seal fired his name into the limelight as he netted a hat-trick past League Two outfit Carlisle United in their EFL Trophy opener on Tuesday night.

The fact he scored three past full-time professional footballers instead of fellow youngsters is a key moment as it suggests he is up to the standard of the men’s game, albeit against a team lower down the English pyramid.

Fosun’s plans to build a successful academy have been clear in the past and this season it may finally be coming to fruition, particularly after this promising display from a young player against senior opposition.

They just need a few players to break into Nuno Santo’s first-team plans and the way their season has gone, who knows, it could well happen.

Back in 2015, the young striker was named as one of the best twenty prospects to look out for in his age group by The Guardian.

Since then, he’s gone on to score 12 goals in 28 appearances for the U23 side and has also been out on loan in Portugal.

In his early years, he passed through the books of north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, which can typically be a good indicator of how talented a player actually is as both youth setups are up there with the best in England.

If Ashley-Seal can continue to impress and build on this, then he could become a serious option amongst their ranks. Not only that, but he could help Fosun’s ambitions ring true.

Liverpool fans praise Marko Grujic and hope to see him in the first-team next season

Marko Grujic is on loan at Hertha Berlin for the second time in two years and he has started the season in decent form.

His two goals in seven league games for the German outfit has caught the attention of the Anfield faithful, too, with some eager to see him return to Liverpool and start playing for the first-team next year.

Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Serbian is now 23 and reaching the crunch period for his Reds career, but if he can maintain his current level of performance then he has a chance of gaining Jurgen Klopp’s trust and adding to his 14 appearances for the club.

He has been described as “clever, patient and precise on the ball”, but he also battles well.

Grujic stands at 6 foot 3 tall and this term has won an average of 2.6 aerial duels per game in the Bundesliga, as well as 10.7 duels in general won per game, and that determination could suit him well at Anfield.

Here is some of the fan reaction wanting to see him given game time by Klopp next season.
