Leeds United fans blast Mateusz Klich after 2-1 defeat to Millwall

Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich has started in all 11 of their Championship matches so far this campaign, but it appears his latest showing has left several supporters fuming.Marcelo Bielsa’s side were defeated 2-1 at Millwall on Saturday afternoon with the result seeing them sink to fifth place in the table.United had to play the majority of the game with ten men after centre-back Gaetano Berardi received his marching orders in the 14th minute.Millwall midfielder Jed Wallace scored the resulting penalty before Tom Bradshaw doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time.Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Whites were able to grab one back through left-back Ezgjan Alioski’s 46th-minute strike, but they couldn’t find that all-important equaliser despite recording 75.5% possession in the final 30 minutes, per WhoScored.

Several of the Elland Road faithful were left angry at the performance of Klich in the heart of midfield, with some of them taking to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One supporter claimed it was criminal to see the 29-year-old play the full 90 minutes while another called for him to be dropped next game.

‘Shocking,’ ‘horrible’ and ‘appalling’ were just three other words used to describe his display.

Here’s the best of the reaction:

Ex-Tottenham star van der Vaart heralded on Twitter by two PL greats

Rafael van der Vaart stepped onto the pitch for one final time earlier this week as the midfielder played in his testimonial match to commemorate his incredible career.Of course, as with any good testimonial, the former Spurs man had a number of ex-teammates taking to the pitch with him.Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

A couple of former Premier League stars took to social media to pay tribute to the former Netherlands international after his special game.

Dirk Kuyt and Robin van Persie both sent tweets after the game to wish their former international teammate well in his retirement.

It seems to be quite an emotional occasion for the two Dutchmen, as van der Vaart was a key man in an unforgettable era for the national team.

The former Real Madrid star played in the team that reached the World Cup final back in 2010 – coming off the bench in their defeat against Spain.

Nottingham Forest would struggle to fit Billy Gilmour into their plans

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Nottingham Forest have had a great history of Scottish players at the club; John Robertson, Kenny Burns and of course John McGovern. And if reports are to be believed, they could be about to introduce another one into the fold.

What’s the story?

According to a report from London Football News, Nottingham Forest are monitoring young Chelsea central midfielder Billy Gilmour.

The 18-year-old Scot has made a few brief appearances for the Blues so far this season but is unlikely to make any further inroads at Stamford Bridge, that’s unless there’s a set of catastrophic injuries to the first team.

Gilmour has played a number of positions in his time in London, but predominantly plays through the middle of the park, either as a central midfielder or a defensive one.

The same outlet suggests Forest could receive competition for his signature on loan with Leeds also in the race.

Possibly on the fringe?

If this was a permanent deal, you’d be more inclined to believe it would make sense.

Nottingham Forest have a couple of ‘elder statesmen’ as it were in the squad like Claudio Yacob, Ben Watson and to a lesser extent Samba Sow, all of whom are over the age of 30, so if this was a move ‘for the future’, it would make sense.

However, with Forest, they’ve got a rather settled squad right now.

Thogden ranks all 24 Championship away kits in the video below…

The likes of Alfa Semedo, Tiago Silva, Joao Carvalho and the aforementioned Sow and Watson are all getting their chances in the first team this season while we’ve also seen the emergence of Brennan Johnson.

Bearing that in mind, it’s difficult to see Gilmour coming in and being able to command a place in the starting XI straight away.

Gaining exposure in the Championship would be beneficial for the player but with Forest doing so well at present it’s a deal they should forget about pursuing. They simply don’t need him.

At best, the teenager could come on as a player off the bench to add something to a game, but he’d have to do an awful lot to break into Sabri Lamouchi’s plans at the City Ground.

Lamouchi appears to have got a settled side so unless this is ‘the missing piece’ that can turn those one-nil victories into twos and threes, it just doesn’t seem viable to suggest he can make an impact on the team this season.

This wouldn’t be a move that suits any party.

Leeds are being held back by Marcelo Bielsa’s naivety

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

He doesn’t help himself sometimes.

Eddie Nketiah once again came to the rescue for Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa as they drew 1-1 with Preston North End, but the debate about whether or not he should be starting ahead of Patrick Bamford is set to rumble on and on until the fans are happy.

Nketiah was brought on immediately after Preston took the lead, and speaking after the game last night, Bielsa gave some rather weird comments in how he dealt with the situation:

“Bamford is a player who helps to organise the team. The match was tight and we didn’t have one player who wasn’t playing well. It was difficult to make any changes. I was waiting for the moment to put Nketiah on the field. I was waiting for Bamford’s play to slow but when they scored, I decided to make the changes. Maybe the change could have been before. It’s a possibility.”

This just shows how naïve Bielsa can be sometimes when it comes to managing this Leeds side. These comments prove that he is being far too ‘reactive’ as a manager instead of being ‘proactive’.

Rather than seeing change he waits for it to come to him.

Whilst Bielsa may be seen by some as one of God’s gifts to football, there is a sense of stubbornness that comes with him that is seriously holding him, and as a result, Leeds back.

He stated later that if he can’t get Bamford and Nketiah to play together, then it will reflect badly on him, so if you needed any more proof that he sees this more of an ego trip for him rather than what is best for the side, there you have it.

Nketiah now has more league goals this season than Bamford, so the writing is on the wall for who has been the more productive player this term.

But even if he does decide to go with Nketiah leading the line from now on, the question will be whether or not it’s because he wants to or he has been forced into it by the pressure from the fans. Again will he be ‘reactive’ or ‘proactive’?

With the expectations piled upon him and the club, they can’t afford to have him looking after his own career and ego, he has to put them aside or he risks going down as a failure at Elland Road.

Leeds’ Patrick Bamford will have mixed emotions after seeing this image

Patrick Bamford didn’t have the best of evenings against Preston on Tuesday.

The striker squandered chance after chance at Deepdale as he hit all six of his attempts off target.

In the end, he was dragged off in the 76th minute, and to make things even worse, the man who he’s competing with for a starting spot scored with his only shot.

He and Eddie Nketiah have been vying for the role upfront in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting XI and after going eight games without finding the back of the net, he’s under colossal pressure.

As a result, seeing Nketiah score and become the hero again won’t have delighted him too much, certainly in terms of his potential game time.

Below are the scenes immediately after the 20-year-old headed home an equaliser, an image that will leave Bamford with incredibly mixed emotions – particularly as the strike was so important.

Guess how Bamford felt after this goal and seeing the celebration.

Of course, he’s going to be happy that his team has just equalised, but you can only imagine how he was truly feeling after the match.

The former Middlesbrough man was being slated by a number of Leeds fans on Twitter while his teammates will have been full of praise and euphoria for Nketiah.

Bamford will certainly be feeling a little different than most of his teammates after their visit to Deepdale.

Newcastle fans want Papiss Cisse back at St James’ Park

A number of Newcastle United fans have urged their club to re-sign Papiss Cisse.

On Monday morning, TEAMtalk cited reports which claimed that the Magpies had been offered the chance to bring the striker back to the club for just £3m.

Chronicle Live carried a story later in the day insisting that Newcastle were not considering a move for the 34-year-old.

We mastered the trick in the video below in 8 attempts… could you do better?

However, that has not stopped the club’s supporters from insisting that they would be interested in re-signing the 6 ft ace from Turkish outfit Alanyaspor.

The Senegal international scored 44 times in 131 appearances during his time at St James’ Park – including 37 Premier League goals.

Cisse has actually managed an impressive nine goals in nine Super Lig outings this season, whilst he has 25 strikes in 36 matches for his current club in all competitions since arriving from China.

Joelinton has only managed one Premier League goal for Newcastle since a summer move, and the supporters have urged their club to consider an approach for Cisse if the opportunity does indeed become available.

Aston Villa fans react to VAR denying Roberto Firmino Liverpool’s equalising goal

A selection of Aston Villa fans took to social media during their Premier League meeting with Liverpool on Saturday to share their thoughts on the Video Assistant Referee denying Roberto Firmino an equalising goal.

Dean Smith’s Villans had taken a surprise lead in the 21st-minute, when Trezeguet opened the scoring with a tap-in after VAR Martin Atkinson overruled a decision to call Tyrone Mings as offside before the Egyptian tapped home at the back post.

Referee Jon Moss had initially sought to chalk off the volley, as Mings had made advances from an offside position, but the goal was given as Trezeguet was arguably the only home player not beyond the last man when the free-kick was taken.

Villa have seen goals taken off the board in incidents where the video assistant could have been used this season, with strikes at Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion disallowed, as well as not seeing a penalty awarded at Arsenal.

Atkinson ensured the shoe was on the other foot on Saturday, though, as Liverpool were denied an equalising goal in the 31st-minute when Firmino was adjudged to have been offside.

The decision appeared to be extremely close to call, with a hair’s width potentially the difference between the Brazilian being onside or not.

Being on the other side of the decision saw one Villa fan note that their side were due a decision going in their favour, having felt there was ‘no way’ Firmino was offside.

Here are some of the messages shared on the key decision from Villa’s clash with Liverpool…

Charlton: Lee Bowyer should have brought Erhun Oztumer on earlier vs Preston

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Off the Bench series, which places in-game managerial decisions and squad selections under FFC’s microscope.

Charlton succumbed to their fifth defeat of the Championship season on Sunday, falling to a 1-0 loss against Preston.

Alex Neil’s side rose to the top of the Championship after leaving The Valley with three points tucked firmly under their belts, although Lee Bowyer’s delayed decision over one of his players on the bench hindered Charlton’s hopes of finding an equaliser.

Snapshot

The scoreline was nicely poised at 0-0 before Jason Pearce gave away a second-half penalty, which was smashed into the bottom-left corner by 35-year-old Paul Gallagher in the 58th minute.

At that point, Bowyer had already used one of his three subs after bringing Naby Sarr off for Jonathan Leko at half-time, following a dismal 45-minute display from the Senegalese centre-back.

The 42-year-old’s second tactical move was to bring Chuks Aneke on for Darren Pratley, although his third and final sub left a lot to be desired in terms of how long the player had to make an impact.

What did Bowyer do?

Well, the Addicks boss subbed Erhun Oztumer onto the field in the 88th minute, leaving the attacking midfielder with next to no time to make an impact on proceedings – if the scoreline was two or three goals in Preston’s advantage it would’ve made a bit more sense, but there was definitely a point there to be won for Charlton.

The 28-year-old – who Charlton’s Head of Recruitment Steve Gallen described as a “skilful player” – eventually came on for Beram Kayal, a man who is more of a traditional centre midfielder with little attacking nature.

Kayal had also been booked in the 65th minute, so that was just another reason as to why Bowyer should have hooked him off earlier so Oztumer could try and threaten Declan Rudd’s goal.

Oztumer isn’t quite a proven Championship player, but his impressive record of 32 goals in 95 appearances for Walsall suggests he knows where the back of the net is – surely, with little to lose, Bowyer should’ve allowed the former Bolton man a bit more time to make an impact.

Unfortunately, he did not, and the former Leeds midfielder’s delayed tactical decision hindered his side’s chances of a fightback.

Sheffield Wednesday face incoming transitional period under Garry Monk

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Sheffield Wednesday are surely about to embark on something they’ve not quite experienced in over half a decade as come the end of the season, several substantial decisions will have had to be made over their playing squad.

Garry Monk was finally appointed as the successor to Steve Bruce in September as his reign barely lasted six months at Hillsborough after he elected to switch south Yorkshire for his hometown Newcastle.

Whether that decision has paid off remains to be seen, but you’d like to think the 40-year-old is going to get a fair crack at getting the Owls to the promised land of the top-flight.

Watch Sheffield Wednesday Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

He’s currently been operating with a squad that has been built by his previous incumbents, so the January transfer window will hand Monk an opportunity to put his stamp down on the blue and white stripes of Sheffield.

This period of time will only kickstart a much wider series of events as the bulk of this side have contracts up at the end of the season.

An entire starting XI’s worth of players see their current deals expire this summer – including Fernando Forestieri, Steven Fletcher, Sam Hutchinson, Morgan Fox, Kieran Lee, and Atdhe Nuhiu.

Monk will no doubt sit down and have a meeting with the club’s owner Dejphon Chansiri at some stage as The Star revealed he would have a big part in any decisions, but ultimately, the final say comes down to the Owls’ chief in command.

The majority of those players out of contract have been at the club for some time, going way back to when Carlos Carvalhal was in charge, meaning the core of this squad could well be split up before next season – which may be a weird feeling for some at Hillsborough.

The south Yorkshire club also have the oldest squad in the Championship, which could well be something that the manager wants to change, meaning a lot of those players could be culled this summer.

Therefore, these players have plenty to prove to the 40-year-old if they want to hang around under his new regime – none are guaranteed a new contract.

Wednesday currently sit three points from the playoffs as they have faltered slightly in recent weeks – over the course of three of their last five matches, the side have seen points snatched from their grasp, which surely would have had them closer to the league leaders West Brom.

It’s soon going to be crunch time under Monk with the next few months likely to shape how he sees his squad lining up on the opening day next August.

Real Madrid fans would gladly welcome Wilfred Ndidi to their club

Real Madrid definitely have a squad pretty stacked with talent.

After all, the likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes and Federico Valverde are some of the brightest young talents in the world of football.

Still, that doesn’t mean that Zinedine Zidane’s squad is complete – not in the slightest.

Watch Spanish Football Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

In fact, looking at their squad list, there seems to be a glaring flaw in Los Blancos’ team – there is no natural replacement for their star, Casemiro.

The 27-year-old Brazilian is the only natural defensive midfielder in the whole squad and finding a suitable replacement for him should be at the very top of Florentino Perez’s to-do list.

And it seems that some of the fans have actually recognised that and have suggested Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi as a potential replacement for the South American.

When they were asked on social media about the young player joining their squad, many Madridistas stated that they would indeed love that transfer.
