West Ham: Fans fume at update on Vladimir Coufal’s future

West Ham are continuing to hold talks with Vladimir Coufal’s representatives over a new contract with the club, according to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth.

But the reporter has revealed that Coufal’s representatives are disappointed with what’s being offered by the Hammers, with his current deal expected to expire in the summer of 2023.

Coufal signed for West Ham back in 2020, and has gone on to make 36 appearances in total for the London-based side, catching the eye with some strong performances in the 2020/21 season and chipping with seven assists in his first season in English football.

West Ham boss David Moyes labelled Coufal as ‘brilliant’ for his performance against Leicester City during the 2020/21 season.

The full-back is currently on international duty with Czech Republic, who are set to take on Denmark for a place in the semi-finals of the European Championships.

Moyes’ side finished sixth in the Premier League table last term, and will be hoping they can go from strength to strength heading into new campaign, which is set to get underway in August, but the uncertainty around key players like Coufal and Declan Rice will not help.

Plenty of West Ham supporters took to social media to voice their frustrations on this update on the club’s efforts to tie Coufal down to a new contract.

Take a look at the best of the reaction from Twitter below, where one supporter labelled the owners as ‘disgraceful’…

Manchester City: Fans react to Ferran Torres update

Manchester City attacker Ferran Torres has signified he would be comfortable playing as a centre-forward more often in 2021/22 [City Xtra].

Enjoying a productive 2020/21 campaign, the Spaniard chipped in with 16 goal contributions in 36 appearances for the Blues; 13 goals and three assists [Transfermarkt].

Now fresh from a run to the semi-final of EURO 2020 with his native land, Torres has talked himself up when asked about a permanent stint leading the Manchester City front-line, stating: “Now I have to say I feel very comfortable playing as a No 9 too” [City Xtra].

Of course, the 21-year-old has predominantly featured as a winger within the duration of his short career. However, with the departure of Citizens legend Sergio Aguero to Barcelona last month [Sky Sports], there is a sizeable void to fill from an offensive perspective at the Etihad Stadium.

That said, loads of Manchester City diehards took to Twitter to voice their frustration at the recent suggestion as they believe this means the club will not properly replace Aguero with a like-for-like.

Liverpool fans excited by Malen interest

A number of Liverpool fans are excited after a transfer story emerged regarding the Reds’ reported interest in Netherlands forward Donyell Malen.

Jurgen Klopp’s side battled their way to a third-place finish in the Premier League last season, but the team looked jaded at times during a tough campaign.

There is a feeling that some fresh blood is needed in the squad this summer, with defender Ibrahima Konate already arriving from RB Leipzig. Liverpool’s attack could be in need of a rejig, considering the struggles of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino last term.

According to Voetbal International journalist Marco Timmer [via Sport Witness and LFC Transfer Room on Twitter], agent Mino Raiola is in talks with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund about a move for Malen.

The 22-year-old Dutchman scored 19 goals in the Eredivisie last season and is seen as one of the most exciting young players in the Netherlands.

Mushtaq Ahmed pushed his claims for a place in the Pakistan Test side with a marvellous spell of spin bowling to help the tourists to a comfortable inningsand 87-run win over the British Universities at Trent Bridge.Beginning their second innings 242 runs behind Will Jefferson and Michael Brown put on 51 for the first wicket but once Mushtaq was introduced from the Radcliffe Road End batting was made to look increasingly complex.A spell of 24 overs, broken only by the tea interval, brought him the impressive figures of 8/49 and match figures of 10/51.Pakistan coach Richard Pybus said: “Mushtaq has done his confidence the world of good.”It is quite a big thing to ask these players who have been involved mainlyin one-day matches in Pakistan domestic cricket recently to come out here andget straight back into the demands of the longer game.”But he has done it. His confidence will be up, and it makes for goodcompetition with the other spinners.”With four victims before tea Mushtaq picked up a fifth with the first ball after the resumption, trapping Jamie Dalryrmple lbw. Porter fell in the same way not playing a shot, Ferley was taken at bat/pad and Foster sliced to cover.Any hope Mushtaq had of taking all ten wickets were dashed when Mohammad Sami removed Chris Elstub’s leg stump and then trapped Mark Tournier in his crease.Earlier on the second day Pakistan endured a disastrous eight-over spell during which they lost five wickets for six runs. Saleem Elahi fell for a splendid 78 and his overnight partner Younis Khan made 32 but a last-wicket stand of 66boosted the lead to 242.Skipper Waqar Younis made a half-century and last man Sami hit two sixes in making 15. Pakistan were all out for 316, but that was more than enough as Mushtaq whirled his magic.

Pundit claims WBA is a huge managerial job

Despite just being relegated immediately back down to the Championship and finishing 13 points from safety, the West Brom job will still be an attractive one for many people, according to former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Jewell.

The Baggies are on the hunt for their third manager in less than 12 months having already parted ways with Slaven Bilic last December after earning a 1-1 draw away to Manchester City, and it was reported last week that Sam Allardyce would not be remaining as the club’s manager in the Championship.

Reports have suggested that West Brom will target Chris Wilder this summer but may face an uphill battle as the former Blades manager is reportedly willing to hold out for a Premier League job either this summer or into next season.

It is still a massive club that will attract a lot of managers despite now being in the Championship and set to potentially sell their star players, Matheus Pereira and Sam Johnstone. That’s according to Jewell, who spoke exclusively to Football FanCast:

“It will be a well sought after job and I know Chris Wilder has been mentioned, because he did a great job, getting Sheffield United up through the leagues as well as in the first season in the Premier League. So I’m sure his name will pop up.

“It will be a job that a lot of people are interested in because, I worked there very briefly and it’s a huge football club with great supporters, great fan base and good facilities. So it’s got all the infrastructure to be a Premier League club so it will attract a lot of suitors.”

Allardyce was brought in as West Brom manager back in December as they looked to address any relegation fears early on and give the former England manager a transfer window to improve the squad but for the first time in his career, Allardyce saw his side relegated from the Premier League.

West Brom’s Achilles’ heel this season was their defensive frailties having conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season having leaked an amazing 76 goals in just 38 games.

Newcastle must sign Chelsea’s Marc Guehi

Newcastle must land Chelsea starlet Marc Guehi in the transfer window amid reports linking the Magpies with a summer move.

What’s the story?

Steve Bruce’s side have one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League this season, with their total of 58 goals conceded only better than three other sides.

It’s no surprise then that The Athletic claim that the Magpies have got their sights set on reinforcing the centre of their defence this summer, with the Tyneside club having watched Guehi this campaign.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Championship side Swansea, and has been a regular starter for them all season, with The Athletic adding that Newcastle are set to face significant competition to sign him.

Bye-bye Fabian Schar

Reports in recent days have suggested that Newcastle’s defence could face some upheaval, with the likes of Fabian Schar as one of the players whose contract is coming to an end this summer.

And if the Magpies do wave goodbye to the Switzerland international and opt not to renew his deal, then Guehi should absolutely be someone who they look to target.

The 6 foot centre-back has been a revelation at Swansea this season in the Championship, with his tally of 1.7 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game in the league ranking him in the top four among all his teammates – a sign of someone who’s comfortable being a front-foot defender and being aggressive, and who can drop off and pick off passes.

It’s no surprise then that his teammate at England U21 level, Josef Bursik, has waxed lyrical about the kind of dominant presence that he is.

When asked who the strongest player in the squad was, he said: “Easy, Marc Guehi. He’s an absolute tank. It’s like having a brick wall in front of you, he’s massive.”

At just 20, Guehi has got all the time in the world to kick on from the season he’s had at Swansea, and if the Magpies do want to move on from Schar and look to the future, then the Chelsea starlet should be near the top of their summer shopping list.

Meanwhile, this man was Bruce’s unsung hero in the win over Leicester…
