Mill Farm

Key information about Mill Farm

Mill Farm was built in 2016 and is now the home of National League’s AFC Fylde. The ground is located on the outskirts of Wesham in the Borough of Fylde over in Lancashire and apart from the football field, also includes several 3G football and hockey pitches as well.

Its current capacity stands at 6,000 and it has a pitch that measures 100m by 67m. The surface is covered with grass and it has no running track surrounding it.

The record attendance of 3,858 fans at Mill Farm was set on 26 December back in 2016.

A history of Mill Farm

The first plans for AFC Fylde to move out of their previous home at Kellamergh Park in the village of Warton were announced back in 2008. And two years later, the project for a new Community Sports Complex in Wrea Green was unveiled. But, the application was ultimately rejected by Fylde Council in April 2012, bashing the club’s dreams.

But their quest to obtain their Football League status was not dead just yet and a new stadium was one way of actually making that dream come true. However, with the initial project scrapped, they set out to redevelop their current home between 2006 and 2016. But it was actually in 2013 that they first outlined new plans for a £18 million multi-sport facility, to be called Mill Farm Sports Village, that would also be in line with the Football League standards.

This time, the Council accepted the application and the Preston architecture company the Frank Whittle Partnership Limited were chosen to design their new home. The construction began in March 2015 and was finished by mid-2016.

On 13 August that same year, AFC Fylde would play their first game at Mill Farm against Brackley Town and soon afterwards, on 26 December, they would also register the record attendance of 3,858 fans at the stadium.

The Mill Farm has three stands, two of which have covered terraces, while the main grandstand comprises 2,000 seats and even has hospitality areas built-in, something that clearly differentiates the ground from the usual stadiums at that level. But Mill Farm is not all about football.

Of course, the football stadium is its main venue but it also has multiple other customer facilities such as a sports bar, a cafe, a restaurant and conference and event facilities across nine different rooms. It is also accompanied by an Aldi supermarket just behind the south end while a Euro Garages petrol station with a Sainsbury’s Local, Greggs bakery and KFC fast-food restaurant are also present on the site.

There are also other sporting facilities such as several 3G football and hockey pitches at Mill Farm as well.

Tickets to watch AFC Fylde at Mill Farm

All tickets to watch AFC Fylde play at Mill Farm can be found and purchased on the club’s official website. The price varies depending on the age group of the buyer and the stand chosen but adult tickets cost around £18 to £20.

Still, the club offers a season ticket scheme as well as memberships that can get you discounts. More information can be found on the aforementioned website.

Tottenham would be foolish to sell Juan Foyth this summer

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are ready to let go of Juan Foyth this summer.

What’s the word?

The Argentina international has been on the periphery of the Spurs first-team this season, making just seven appearances across all competitions – his lowest total for a campaign since his arrival at the club a few years ago.

Now, Football Insider claim the Lilywhites are ready to tell Foyth to find a new club in the upcoming summer transfer window, and that they are looking to recoup the £8m fee they originally paid to bring him to north London.

The Greatest Bargains in Premier League history – How much did they cost?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

The report further adds that after blocking Foyth’s wishes of either a loan or permanent move back in January, they are more open to accepting his request this time around as they look to rebuild their squad.

Risk

Whilst Foyth may not have seen too much game-time this season under either Mauricio Pochettino or Jose Mourinho, Spurs should perhaps think again before letting him go in the summer – after all, the former even lauded him as “quality” and “so clever” after an impressive performance against Crystal Palace.

The future of fellow centre-back Jan Vertonghen remains up in the air for the time being, although the signs are that he will be allowed to leave on a free transfer when his contract with the club comes to an end.

If the Belgian were to depart, then letting Foyth leave north London too would rob Spurs of two first-team options at centre-back. And whilst they may be on the look-out for some replacements in the transfer market, the Lilywhites surely have bigger priorities to focus on – namely up front.

Keeping Foyth at least for this summer, especially when finances are set to be tight, would be the smart, business move. Mourinho is on the verge of making a very hasty mistake.

Meanwhile, Spurs could pull off a masterstroke with this deal.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp naming Adrian as his MOTM brilliant man-management

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to BBC Sport after Liverpool’s victory over Brighton, Jurgen Klopp has hailed substitute goalkeeper Adrian as his man of the match.

What did he say?

After Virgil van Dijk’s first-half brace, Liverpool looked like they were coasting home to victory. But Alisson’s moment of madness saw him being shown a straight red card for handling outside the area, with Adrian having to come on to take over goalkeeping duties.

He was promptly beaten by Lewis Dunk’s free-kick, but aside from a couple of nervy moments, made some crucial saves and denied the Seagulls a dramatic equaliser. And following the conclusion of the match, Klopp was quick to praise the substitute shot-stopper for having to adjust to difficult circumstances.

He said: “Virgil (van Dijk) was probably man of the match with the two goals but Adrian is for me – to come in to a game like this and make two saves. Even the goal-kicks are difficult with cold feet! We were not prepared for that situation so I am completely happy.”

Team spirit

Make no mistake about it, the way Klopp handled the Alisson red card in his post-match comments is further evidence of why the Reds look like such a harmonious group in pursuit of their goals. It could have been so very easy for the German to have taken the opportunity to chastise his number one, and leave him out to dry for nearly costing his team dearly.

Instead, he brushed past it, and chose to focus on his number two, Adrian. The former West Ham man filled in when Alisson was injured earlier on in the season, and may have considered himself unlucky to have been dropped back to the bench when the Brazilian returned to fitness. And so in declaring him the man of the match for his late cameo, Klopp made sure to keep one of his fringe stars happy.

Winning trophies is always about a squad, and never just about the starting eleven. And in paying tribute to his number two, the Liverpool boss has made it abundantly clear that nobody’s contributions, however small, will be forgotten. If the Reds march on to the title, then little moments of genius like this will be looked back upon with great fondness.

Liverpool fans left distraught after Fabinho walks off injured against Napoli

It was a frustrating night for Liverpool against Napoli on Wednesday.

The Reds dominated possession, taking control of the ball for 71% of the 90 minutes, but they were only able to score one time through a powerful Dejan Lovren header.

For the vast majority of the game, they were unable to break through the sturdy defence of Carlo Ancelotti’s team, and the solitary point now leaves them needing to get at least the same against RB Salzburg.

The Anfield outfit were dealt another cruel blow in the 19th minute, as well, when Brazil international Fabinho was forced off the pitch with an ankle injury.

He had tried to play on, but it became apparent that he would be unable to last the course. Called the best defensive midfielder in the world in September by Gary Neville (Sky Sports via Metro), his absence could be a huge blow.

The club’s supporters were worried by his removal from the pitch.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

In other news, one Liverpool star said he could have joined Napoli before moving to Anfield.

Kyle Walker’s Anfield display showed why Joao Cancelo is the future

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Manchester City’s defence was at sixes and sevens too often against Liverpool, as the champions slumped to their third to defeat of the Premier League season. Two quickfire goals early on in the game and a Sadio Mane header in the second half showed there any still many gaps within the City backline.

The likes of Ederson were clearly missed, whilst the absence of Aymeric Laporte and departure of Vincent Kompany have equally been felt during the season. At right-back, Pep Guardiola has been experimenting and perhaps still does not know his best player in that spot, having played Joao Cancelo five times in the Premier League, as well as Kyle Walker.

Cancelo signed for City this summer for £27.5m and hasn’t managed to dethrone Walker just yet, though he has shown enough promise to suggest he can eventually become the club’s first-choice right-back.

Just a week before the battle on Merseyside, Walker put in a game-winning display against Southampton by assisting the equaliser and scoring the winner. However, his form over the past year has seen him miss out on the England squad, raising questions marks over the true extent of his ability in the process.

The 25-year-old right-back has so far averaged 2.4 tackles per game in the Premier League and two tackles per match in the Champions League. On the other hand, against Liverpool, Walker made just one tackle and was beaten twice in the game.

In truth, throughout the tie, Mane had a fairly easy game against the former Tottenham Hotspur man.

Even going forward the 29-year-old made just 34 passes, which equalled to a 74% completion rate, whilst Walker also failed to accurately complete a single cross.

Despite his proven ability going forward, Walker’s defensive frailties have been exposed at times.

With Cancelo still relatively new to the club and looking to stamp his mark at the Etihad, Walker’s latest performance will certainly give Guardiola food for thought moving forward.

Birmingham maestro Jack Concannon could be next in line for a call up

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In The Pipeline series, which takes a look at some of the most promising young talent either linked with clubs or emerging from their academies…

Another name on the production line?

Whilst the Blues U23 squad were knocked out of the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday night, there was one name that stood out above the rest of the team, and that was young midfielder Jack Concannon.

If you were to read the Birmingham City Twitter account during the game last night, you’d be forgiven for thinking that he was the only player doing anything for the Blues.

The youngster was mentioned three times in the first half alone, gliding past defenders and ‘making things happen.’

He was instrumental in the Blues’ goal on the night, picking up the ball near halfway and driving through midfield where his shot was rebounded in by Ryan Stirk.

A central midfielder by trade, Concannon isn’t scared of getting forward and joining in with the attack.

He’s started to make a bit of a name for himself in the U23 squad this season, finding the back of the net twice, against Sheffield United with a ‘fine strike’ and another against Leeds United.

It wouldn’t be as if a move like this was without precedent either, Odin Bailey was making good progress in the U23 side earlier in the season.

He netted against Ipswich Town, Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace and he managed to get a few appearances in the team out of it. The teenager even managed to score against Middlesbrough for the senior side a couple of weeks ago.

Not just Bailey, but the emergence of Jude Bellingham as a regular in the first team shows that Pep Clotet isn’t scared at dipping into the academy when he has to this season of he believes that they can help the team out.

We’ve discussed in the past that a tweak in formation to more of a 4-3-2-1 for the first team could be a way to get the best out of the squad.

Having two men playing off Lukas Jutkiewicz rather than just one alongside him suggests Concannon can certainly fill that role. Even if Clotet doesn’t want to make that tweak just yet, he can still do the same role in the 4-4-2 that he’s currently using.

So there’s a spot ready and waiting for him in the team, it’s just a case of when not if he’s going to be in a position to take it.

Exclusive: John Hartson urges Man United to appoint a director of football

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, John Hartson has talked up the major benefits a director of football would have at Manchester United.

The Red Devils have come under heavy fire for their scatter-gun approach to the transfer market in recent years, with players of vastly different profiles being signed under various managers.

How much money could you make busking for a week as a freestyle footballer? Find out in the video below…

It is a policy that has unquestionably led to the mess Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently attempting to fix, and Hartson has suggested appointing a director of football would help bring a sense of control and decisiveness to the club.

He told Football FanCast: “Get a director of football in, somebody very experienced, somebody who’s done the job before and not an ex-player. Somebody who’s maybe managed before. Just to go in and help Solskjaer and oversee one or two of the signings. I think that would be a great move for United.

“They need someone who’s been there, seen it and done it at big clubs and can give sound, solid advice to Solskjaer.”

Make no mistake about it, United are in desperate need for a director of football. Ed Woodward has come under increasing, and understandable, scrutiny for his role in the club’s poor recruitment over the past few seasons, and that is a direct result of not having someone who is football-oriented making those decisions.

Having an ex-manager who has been around the block and can liaise with Solskjaer and discuss things on a football level, rather than on a business one, would pay huge dividends for the Red Devils.

As well as the added focus they would bring to the club’s recruitment strategy, they could play a major part in helping the United boss turn things around.

Solskjaer’s inexperience has been a stick to beat the Norwegian with since his permanent appointment, and so having an almost ‘mentor-like’ figure voice their thoughts and act as a sounding board would help streamline matters.

United need major help behind the scenes, and Hartson’s calls for a director of football are absolutely spot on.

West Brom landing Dwight Gayle can ensure attack thrives

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to The Shields Gazette, West Brom could go back in for former loan star Dwight Gayle in the January transfer window.

What’s the word?

The 28-year-old striker was on loan at the Hawthorns last season under former boss Darren Moore and quickly became an influential member of the squad.

Gayle scored 24 goals in 41 appearances as the club made the playoffs last season. He also added eight assists, showing how much of a team asset he really was.

In the summer, Bilic tried to get his hands on the forward but his parent club, Newcastle United, kept hold of him at manager Steve Bruce’s request.

At the time, they valued their frontman at between £15-20m which West Brom simply couldn’t afford.

The Croatian has added fuel to the fire by stating he would, in an ideal world, like another striker.

Music to Albion’s ears

If the Baggies can find the money for him, he could be one of the signings of the season based on how he performed last term.

He’s clearly a very popular figure at the Hawthorns despite only being at the club temporarily and several supporters wanted him to re-sign this summer.

The move would not only add goals to a frontline which has scored just two in six between them, but it would also enable Bilic to play the two striker system he spoke about when he first arrived at the club.

Gayle predominantly played in a two last term and alongside Jay Rodriguez, they scored 46 times.

Watch West Bromwich Albion Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore could really benefit from having someone like Gayle alongside them and a possible pairing could bring fruitful benefits to all concerned, specifically with Austin.

West Brom could have two proven goalscorers leading the line for them in the second half of the season if the attacker signs again. Austin has 68 in 135 Championship appearances, per Tranfermarkt, and the Newcastle man showed his potential last season.

Landing a player like Gayle could well be the difference between securing promotion or remaining in the Championship.
