Arsenal fans react to Nicolas Pepe’s home debut against Burnley

[ad_pod ]

Having signed Nicolas Pepe in a club-record deal from Lille, it’s fair to say Arsenal landed one of the biggest transfers of the summer.

The Ivory Coast international was electric for the French side last season, scoring 23 goals and providing 12 assists across all competitions.

Pepe made his competitive debut for the Gunners against Newcastle, but made his first appearance in front of the Emirates faithful when he came on at half-time against Burnley.

The 24-year-old showed flashes of brilliance in his time on the pitch, and most memorably nutmegged centre-back Ben Mee with a delicious piece of skill.

After seeing Pepe’s display, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to reveal their verdicts on the big-money signing.

Many hailed the Ivorian’s direct approach and praised his work in taking the game to the opposition with his dribbling prowess.

Others however refused to get carried away by the winger’s home debut, and one pointed to some of his  passing and shooting as things to work on over the course of the season.

Crystal Palace duo Luka Milivojevic and Wilfried Zaha involved in interesting exchange

[ad_pod ]

A lot went wrong for Crystal Palace against Sheffield United – where do I even start?

A lack of cohesion from Roy Hodgson’s side saw the Eagles have just six shots in comparison to the Blades’ 15 attempts, in what was a truly lacklustre affair from Palace – they deserved to lose the game, without a doubt.

Before a ball had even been kicked, all eyes were on Wilfried Zaha as the Ivorian made his first start since handing in a transfer request on the eve of the deadline.

Disappointingly, the forward failed to light up Bramall Lane having had just one shot, which was off target.

You wouldn’t be forgiven for wondering how the 26-year-old’s teammates feel about Zaha and his antics in the window, but this image showing an exchange between captain Luka Milivojevic and the winger suggests that the Serbian was asking for more from the former Manchester United man.

This in-game photo showing the pair having a discussion could mean a number of things.

Is the skipper demanding more from his want-away teammate?

Is he questioning a possible lack of commitment?

The former Anderlecht man could be saying anything to the forward in this image, but it is a particularly intriguing photograph given the context of the Ivory Coast international’s current situation at the club.

Zaha really struggled to get involved against Chris Wilder’s side, embarking on just two dribbles whilst also making just a single key pass to go with his one off-target attempt, so Milivojevic could just be asking him to step up his game a tad as the skipper of the team.

Whilst that alone may be quite a bland narrative, it is more fun to speculate about the pair potentially discussing Zaha’s commitment to the side amid the dramatics of the summer transfer window – you would’ve just loved to have been a fly on the wall in the away dressing room on Sunday, wouldn’t you?

Norwich City: Canaries hit with Alex Tettey injury just two weeks before Liverpool opener

Norwich City have been hit with an injury blow as midfielder Alex Tettey has suffered a setback in his bid to come back from a calf injury.

[ad_pod ]

Daniel Farke revealed the news at a press conference and revealed there was ‘a little blood’ in the calf of the Norwegian winger.

He said: “Alex had a little setback in the past week. A small calf injury. We had just planned he would be out for seven to 10 days but there is still some blood in the calf.”

“We have to get that out and we either use some traditional methods or maybe a small surgery. That is a decision to make in the next day or two. It is very rare with this injury you have to do that. It is a shame for Alex. He was looking sharp and unbelievably fit at this level. Let’s see how it develops.” (Source: Eastern Daily Press)

Tettey played a huge part for the Norfolk club last season, featuring 30 times as the club won promotion back to the Premier League. His injury leaves Norwich City with just two out-and-out defensive midfielders in the squad, which could prove problematic especially with a hard start to the season for the club.

The Norwegian was with the Canaries when they were last in the Premier League and has made 71 appearances in English football’s top flight.

An injury setback is devastating for manager Farke, especially after he revealed that the club wasn’t looking to add to their squad ahead of the transfer window closing next Thursday. Depending on the severity of the setback, Norwich may have to dip back into the market to sign another midfielder.

As mentioned above, Tettey has Premier League experience, making the second-most appearances of any player at Norwich City having made 71 appearances, behind goalkeeper Tim Krul (157).

With Norwich expecting to battle relegation next season the experience will be key. To potentially lose Tettey for the beginning of the season is a hammer blow for the club, especially with such a difficult start to the season.

West Ham Transfer Roundup: Arnautovic news, Snodgrass contract, United after defender

[ad_pod ]

Today’s Hammers transfer roundup includes an update in regards to the future of a star player, a new contract for a midfielder and Premier League interest in a defender.

Arnautovic wanted bid accepted

According to Football FanCast sources, Marko Arnautovic asked the club to accept an offer from an unnamed Chinese Super League side. However, that bid – believed to be worth €22m (£19.7m) – has been rejected by the east Londoners.

Snodgrass signs contract extension

Midfielder Robert Snodgrass has signed a contract extension with the London outfit it was confirmed on Tuesday. His deal will now run out in 2021 but it includes the option of a further twelve months.

United to step up Diop interest

French outlet L’Equipe is reporting that Manchester United are preparing to make an offer for centre-back Issa Diop, who moved to the London Stadium only last summer. United will be looking to step up their interest in the coming days.

Aston Villa fans react to image of John Terry during training session

[ad_pod ]

On Friday, Aston Villa’s official Twitter account posted an image of John Terry taking part in a training session, insisting that the 38-year-old has “still got it”.

Now assistant manager at Villa Park, Terry turned out as a player for the club during the 2017-18 campaign before hanging up his boots.

Villa had both Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe on loan during the 2018-19 campaign but seemingly face a tough task to bring either back to the club this summer.

As a result, some Villa fans have claimed that Terry might be needed as a player, whilst others have suggested that he could still contribute.

The former England captain made an incredible 759 appearances during his professional career, with over 700 of those coming for Chelsea.

In his prime, Terry was outstanding but age has caught up with the Barking-born man.

Thogden challenged himself to DM 100 footballers on Instagram. Find out who replied in the video below…

As a result, the former defender will more than likely have to make his present felt from the touchline rather than on the field.

Rangers fans hate the idea of signing Josh Magennis this summer

[ad_pod ]

Rangers fans aren’t keen on reports that the club are exploring the option of signing Northern Ireland striker Josh Magennis this summer.

The Belfast Telegraph reported on Tuesday that the Gers were in discussions with the player’s representatives about a potential budget move from Bolton Wanderers this summer, as the English club continue to suffer financial problems.

Check out the below above to see football played as you’ve never seen it before… in a maze!

With 41 caps for his country and spells at Aberdeen, St Mirren and Kilmarnock, Magennis does have good experience but is not known as a prolific goalscorer.

Steven Gerrard already has Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe to call upon, but any third striker in support will also have to be able to find his way to goal when called upon or he won’t be very popular at Ibrox.

It’s fair to say the reaction to his potential signing is already negative, with many fans feeling he simply doesn’t have the quality to fit in at the club if they are hoping to be winning trophies next term.

These supporters have taken to Twitter this week to share their thoughts on the story…

Transfer Focus: Leeds have dodged a transfer bullet with expensive Harry Wilson loan

[ad_pod ]

According to reports from Football Insider, Leeds United are out of the running in the race to sign Harry Wilson as he has made it clear that he doesn’t want to join the Yorkshire club on loan next season.

The attacking midfielder spent the last season out on loan at Derby County, and he was instrumental in inflicting heartbreak upon the Whites at the end of last season.

What’s the story?

The 22-year-old has apparently told Liverpool that he doesn’t want to go out on loan again next season, and although Leeds have been heavily linked with a move for him, his arrival at Elland Road now looks unlikely.

The report states that the midfielder is ready to leave Anfield permanently, but the Merseyside club value their young prospect at £25m, meaning it’s incredibly unlikely that the Whites will be able to secure a permanent deal either.

Bullet dodged

Even though Wilson was one of the star performers in the Championship last season – scoring 16 goals and providing 4 assists  – Leeds may be dodging a bullet by not signing him.

Liverpool apparently want £4m from any club looking to loan him for a season, which is an extortionate amount for any player on loan, especially considering Bielsa needs both quantity and quality this summer.

Leeds’ finances in this upcoming transfer window may be limited as it has been speculated they will have to sell before they buy, and they will have to look at PL loan moves to bolster their options.

The monetary aspect isn’t the only reason the Whites should count themselves lucky that they won’t be signing Wilson.

The midfielder openly mocked the club on social media and was filmed singing songs that made fun of the Whites after Derby beat them in the play-off semi-final in May.

With the heartbreak from that defeat still lingering fresh in mind,  those acts surely wouldn’t be forgotten by the supporters or his teammates.

For those reasons, he may have never been accepted at Elland Road and it may be best for all parties that this deal is now off the table.

Transfer Focus: Leighton Baines would be entirely the wrong signing for Rangers

[ad_pod ]

Rangers won’t be making a move for out-of-contract defender Leighton Baines this summer, according to The Daily Record.

What’s the story?

The paper say there has been substantial chatter over the last week that the Gers could be set to sign the Everton veteran, with his deal at Goodison Park set to expire this summer.

The 34-year-old has yet to reveal what his future holds or what club he will be playing for next season but The Record are adamant it won’t be Rangers despite the club potentially still signing a player in his position over the coming months.

The report states that the departure of Lee Wallace coupled with middling form for current regulars in the position, Gerrard could look to strengthen at left-back.

Watch the video below to find out which derbies the Pl>ymaker squad have picked as the most entertaining, fierce and passionate in the world…

Would Baines have been a good Rangers choice?

With over 400 appearances in the English Premier League for Everton and Wigan Athletic, Baines has had an excellent career at the top level but simply doesn’t fit into the project Gerrard is currently trying to build at Ibrox.

The Gers boss is assembling a team of young, hungry British-based talent that can forge a unit capable to go up against the might of Celtic and having the mental fortitude to credibly challenge for trophies in multiple competitions.

Key experience in the team is part of that too, but having already signed players such as Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe, Gerrard already has a spine in his team made up of veteran professionals and the addition of Baines would just be one too many.

An old pals act is the last thing Rangers fans want to see ahead of the new season.

A move for a former international teammate of Gerrard, who is now well into his 30s, would raise serious eyebrows and this is a transfer the club are better off passing on.

Past his best: Liverpool fans are not interested in Gareth Bale swoop

[ad_pod ]

It would be fair to say that Liverpool fans are not interested in their club making a summer swoop for Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale.

The Reds have not actually been linked with the Wales international, who did not feature in Real Madrid’s final three games of the 2018-19 campaign.

However, if they were, it seems that the majority of Liverpool supporters would not want their club to make a bid to land the 29-year-old.

Bale only scored eight La Liga goals for Los Blancos during the 2018-19 campaign.

The attacker still has three years left to run on his contract at the Bernabeu, though, and will surely not walk away from such a lucrative deal.

It would not be a surprise if the Welshman did ultimately end up back in the Premier League, but the Liverpool fans are simply not interested in a swoop.

[Image] – Paul Pogba shows raw emotion in Everton defeat, indicates he does care

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fell to a dismal 4-0 defeat against Everton on Sunday as their poor run of form continued under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and club-record signing Paul Pogba was one of a number of hugely disappointing performers on the day.

If the Red Devils want to qualify for the Champions League next season then they need to turn their form around quickly, as they once again failed to show up against the Toffees at the weekend.

Because of his price tag Pogba will always be one of the players that fans scrutinise first, and there wasn’t a lot to be impressed by from the Frenchman on Merseyside.

While he did produce a neat pass through for Marcus Rashford early on, he once again failed to exert himself on a game like we know he can.

It was a hot day but that is no excuse – the 26-year-old hasn’t been good enough for the majority of the time since his return to Old Trafford.

Who would win out of Man Utd’s treble winners and Man City today? Fans discuss in the video below…

While some United supporters may feel that the 2018 World Cup winner doesn’t really care about the club, there was one image from the heavy loss that suggested that isn’t the case.

In a photo where Nemanja Matic and Chris Smalling are pictured with their hands on their hips looking dejected, Pogba is at least showing some raw emotion and some leadership skills as he shouts at his teammates.

While the Frenchman clearly shouldn’t be devoid of criticism having not turned up again, this does disprove any possible myths that he may have given up on the club.

It’s a small positive step, and now he needs to step up and help the team secure a top-four finish in the coming weeks.
