– Já informei meus advogados sobre o ocorrido e vou tomar todas as medidas cabíveis para que essa pessoa responda legalmente pelo que fez. Se deixarmos esse tipo de situação passar, isso nunca irá cessar.

Michel Bastos ainda desabafou sobre o racismo no futebol. Aos seus olhos, sua atitude pode servir de exemplo para outras pessoas que são alvo de injúria racial no país e no mundo:

As ofensas racistas são apenas mais um desdobramento da rixa com a torcida do São Paulo. Em seu pedido de desculpas após provocar torcedores ao marcar seu gol na vitória por 3 a 0 no Morumbi, o atleta recebeu de um seguidor a resposta agressiva de “Macaco negro e safado, respeita a torcida. Otário, vagabundo faz por merecer o dinheiro que recebe”.

Tottenham Hotspur are ‘most likely’ to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona this summer, according to reports. 

The Daily Mail claimed, as relayed by Ricky Sacks, that Spurs are probably leading the race to sign the 61-cap Brazil international at the moment.

The Lilywhites have been linked with the former Liverpool forward for several months as recent reports revealed that Barcelona are prepared to pay a portion of his wages if he leaves the Nou Camp in the summer transfer window.

Coutinho has spent the past season on loan at Bayern Munich but Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has made it clear that the German champions do not want to sign him on a permanent basis. The Barcelona exile knows that he has no way back at his parent club, who are looking to cut their losses.

Given the gravity of the situation, Barcelona will want to recoup as much of the £145m they spent on the playmaker as they possibly can, with a summer return to England currently on the cards. His agent Kia Joorabchian has admitted that there is “genuine interest” from Premier League clubs amid links with Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City.

Jose Mourinho has bemoaned the lack of creativity in the midfield this season and Coutinho could provide the quality that Tottenham need to challenge for silverware next season.

While the 28-year-old has largely failed to hit the same heights that he enjoyed with Liverpool, he has still managed to win La Liga twice, although he lost his place to Antoine Griezmann after Quique Setien took charge at Barcelona.

The Brazilian played 23 games in the Bundesliga this season, scoring eight goals, supplying six assists, taking 2.5 shots per game, averaging 1.3 key passes and successfully completing 1.4 dribbles on average (via WhoScored).

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has earned a reputation for being notoriously tight-fisted in the transfer window and he may be unwilling to splash the cash on a player who has struggled for form in recent years.

Regardless, the prospect of working with Mourinho must carry some weight, as his CV more than speaks for itself. Coutinho will not come cheap, in all likelihood, but he is still a world-class player with bags of experience at the top levels of the game who could act as a mentor to some of the younger members of the squad, which would surely be an added bonus.

It may not be the director of football appointment that was rumoured to be on the agenda last season, but Manchester United have made a key addition to their backroom staff.

As per The Manchester Evening News, the club have brought in Neil McIlhargey as a recruitment analyst, and becomes the second notable addition to the off-the-pitch set-up after Andrew Meredith joined as an analysis operations manager earlier this season.

According to the report, McIlhargey’s CV has seen him previously work at both Watford and Brentford, and as the former Head of Analysis for Scottish giants Rangers. That position saw him work alongside the coaching staff at Ibrox, and was “involved in helping with the recruitment of transfer targets”.

After hearing of the club’s latest appointment, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many supporters of the Manchester side revealed their disbelief at seeing the club appoint someone with a less than stellar CV, and questioned how he could be considered good enough.

Andy Carroll has spoken of his delight at being back in the north-east and hopes to make his latest stint another successful one.

What did he say?

Whilst he hasn’t yet started a league game, the striker is in high spirits and in the main he has started to put his injury issues behind him.

After eight years away from the club in a period which saw him score only 45 goals, he is relieved to be settled down once again in familiar settings, and it seems that anything positive that happens on the pitch is just a bonus.

Speaking at the NewcastleFoundation Dinner, as reported by ChronicleLive, Carroll said:

“It’s been hard. I’ve had my ups and downs with injuries, but hopefully I’m past them all now.

“It’s been good, and I’m back in the squad.

“I’ve missed being home, missed being with my family and friends, just driving around, memories. It’s great to be back at the club.”

Carroll has only achieved one shot on target so far but is remaining optimistic, perhaps because he believes he will begin to deliver once he finally works his way back up to full fitness and puts his injury woes in the past.

Worth the gamble?

When Carroll was brought back to the club it may have pleased the fans, but onlookers may have felt the club was acting on sentiment rather than rationale.

After all, he made just 28 league starts over the last two years, contributing only three goals in that time and appearing to lose his effectiveness with each passing injury.

Now, it seems that Steve Bruce has granted him the role of being an impact sub, but with Newcastle a defensive outfit this year and players such as Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin not suited to crossing, his success is likely to be limited.

The pair have averaged zero and 0.4 successful crosses per game respectively this season, and since he has only made five appearances so far, Carroll will have to contribute a lot more to repay his weekly wage, which could be as high as £70,000 a week when he starts a match.

Given his injury history, it was a big risk to bring him in. Some have questioned whether it was at best a PR stunt by Mike Ashley to win over fans disappointed with Bruce’s appointment, and until he delivers on the pitch those doubts will remain.

Eddie Nketiah once again came to the rescue for Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa as they drew 1-1 with Preston North End, but the debate about whether or not he should be starting ahead of Patrick Bamford is set to rumble on and on until the fans are happy.

Nketiah was brought on immediately after Preston took the lead, and speaking after the game last night, Bielsa gave some rather weird comments in how he dealt with the situation:

“Bamford is a player who helps to organise the team. The match was tight and we didn’t have one player who wasn’t playing well. It was difficult to make any changes. I was waiting for the moment to put Nketiah on the field. I was waiting for Bamford’s play to slow but when they scored, I decided to make the changes. Maybe the change could have been before. It’s a possibility.”

This just shows how naïve Bielsa can be sometimes when it comes to managing this Leeds side. These comments prove that he is being far too ‘reactive’ as a manager instead of being ‘proactive’.

Rather than seeing change he waits for it to come to him.

Whilst Bielsa may be seen by some as one of God’s gifts to football, there is a sense of stubbornness that comes with him that is seriously holding him, and as a result, Leeds back.

He stated later that if he can’t get Bamford and Nketiah to play together, then it will reflect badly on him, so if you needed any more proof that he sees this more of an ego trip for him rather than what is best for the side, there you have it.

Nketiah now has more league goals this season than Bamford, so the writing is on the wall for who has been the more productive player this term.

But even if he does decide to go with Nketiah leading the line from now on, the question will be whether or not it’s because he wants to or he has been forced into it by the pressure from the fans. Again will he be ‘reactive’ or ‘proactive’?

With the expectations piled upon him and the club, they can’t afford to have him looking after his own career and ego, he has to put them aside or he risks going down as a failure at Elland Road.

A couple of former Premier League stars took to social media to pay tribute to the former Netherlands international after his special game.

Dirk Kuyt and Robin van Persie both sent tweets after the game to wish their former international teammate well in his retirement.

It seems to be quite an emotional occasion for the two Dutchmen, as van der Vaart was a key man in an unforgettable era for the national team.

The former Real Madrid star played in the team that reached the World Cup final back in 2010 – coming off the bench in their defeat against Spain.

Tottenham have reportedly held talks over the possibility of recalling Jack Clarke from his loan at Leeds, and Spurs fans hope it means he will get a chance in the first-team.

However, Football Insider suggest that the club’s plan is to loan him elsewhere with the aim to get more game time than he is currently, having only played 115 minutes at Elland Road this term.

That means there is a risk of him stagnating and not developing under Marcelo Bielsa in the way Spurs would have wished, having signed him from the Whites for £11.5m this summer on the basis that he will develop into a top-level player.

Many fans think he is worthy of being brought back and placed in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad straight away due to the current underperformance of the team.

That could be a good option for Spurs given the numerous youngsters who have improved under the Argentine, including Harry Winks who is a regular fixture in the starting XI these days, but given their current predicament they may feel it is not the right environment for a new young player to cut his teeth.
