Leeds Transfer Update Involving Glen Kamara

Leeds United have held discussions regarding a move for Glasgow Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, but a new report has revealed that there are also two other clubs pursuing him in the Championship.

How much did Rangers pay for Glen Kamara?

Back in 2019, Kamara put pen to paper at Ibrox following a £50k move from Dundee FC, and during his four years at the club, he’s been a regular feature of the first team having made a total of 193 appearances to date, but he failed to earn regular minutes last season.

The Light Blues’ defensive midfielder was handed just 12 Scottish Premiership starts and was forced to come off the bench on ten occasions, via WhoScored, showing how out of favour he’s become, and his potential availability appears to have caught the attention of Daniel Farke at Elland Road.

The Daily Mail’s Transfer Confidential previously reported that the Whites were considering an offer for the 27-year-old, and whilst his manager Michael Beale was quick to shut down claims by publicly stating “there’s nothing in that, not at this moment”.

Graham Smyth has since confirmed that he is “back on the radar” following the departure of Tyler Adams who’s joined Bournemouth.

Are Leeds signing Glen Kamara?

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Coventry have all “held talks” with Rangers over a summer swoop for Kamara, who is expected to “soon” make his preferred destination known. The Teddy Bears boss has “told” the player that he is free to depart and is “keen to move him on” before his market value drops.

The Ibrox star has therefore “set his sights” on a move to England where he has three potential suitors, but it’s the LS11 outfit who are “pushing the strongest” with technical director Gretar Steinsson personally pressing to wrap up a deal.

Nottingham Forest’s Jonjo Shelvey is also being looked at as a central reinforcement, but Farke has made it his “wish” to secure the formerly mentioned player as his number one target.

Despite falling down the pecking order at Rangers, Kamara has been dubbed a defensive midfield “monster” by his former manager Steven Gerrard and still has plenty of potential to offer, so this is a move that would certainly be a risk worth taking for Leeds and the 49ers.

The Tampere native, who pockets £21k-per-week, last season recorded an 89.4% pass success rate which was higher than any of the regular starters managed in Yorkshire, highlighting his calmness and composure on the ball, alongside averaging one key pass per league game north of the border.

The StormSportsX client, who has posted 31 goal contributions (20 assists and 11 goals) throughout his career, also has the versatility to operate in six various positions over the grass, including everywhere across the centre and even at right-back, making him a great option for the boss to have at his disposal.

Furthermore, Kamara has not only won the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup, he’s even been formerly named Finland’s Footballer of the Year for 2022 so has a string of collective and individual accolades to his name, meaning he knows what success tastes like and could use his triumphs to help the club bounce back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

England 'not thugs' but must behave – Strauss

Andrew Strauss has said he would continue to back England’s players after the Jonny Bairstow incident and does not believe an alcohol ban is necessary on tour

George Dobell in Brisbane27-Nov-20171:33

It’s come up on Australia’s first good day in the field – Root

Andrew Strauss has said England’s cricketers are “not thugs” but need to be smarter if they are to improve the perception the public currently have of them. Strauss, the director of England cricket, insisted he would back his players and did not believe an alcohol ban was necessary, but suggested “a bit of naivety” was damaging their image at present. He was talking as details of the incident involving Jonny Bairstow and Cameron Bancroft came to light. While Strauss said he accepted Bairstow’s explanation of events – repeating there was “no malice, no intent and no aggression in what he did” – he did call on the players to use their intelligence in the wake of the Ben Stokes affair and ensure they do not “put themselves in a position to be targeted”.As a result, he addressed the entire squad in Brisbane on Monday night to make clear the rules regarding England’s attitude to alcohol and nights out. While that will not involve an absolute ban on drinking, it does seem likely the rules will be tightened and clarified – with the possibility of a midnight curfew being imposed for the rest of the tour. But Strauss also made the point that the players had to be aware that, during an Ashes tour, there would be people looking to catch them out (on and off the pitch) and that, as the game sought to appeal to a new generation of supporters, they had to understand the changing nature of their responsibilities.”Jonny told me he bumped Cameron Bancroft,” Strauss said. “It’s a greeting thing he does with his mates.”Although I’m slightly surprised he would choose to do such a thing, I’m taking him at his word. As such, I don’t think it would appropriate for us to be launching disciplinary proceedings against him.”There was no curfew on that night. He’d had a couple of drinks but I don’t think he was inebriated. Nothing untoward happened at any time. Our security were very comfortable with their behaviour and that is the reason it has been a complete non-event up until now. No one knew about it because they didn’t do anything wrong and this situation has somewhat surprised all of us.”But what might have been acceptable in the old days is no longer acceptable. We, as an England cricket team and I suppose cricket as a sport, need to move along with that. So no one is underplaying this.”Something that was very innocent and kind of banter in a way, given the context and environment we’re operating in at the moment, can be construed as something completely different. And if that is not clear to the players right now, I don’t know when it will be.”All I’m saying is that the world has moved on. Certainly, in light of the Ben Stokes situation, there is attention on us that there wasn’t previously and we need to move with that. I think the guys do understand: it is very crystal clear to them now that if you put yourself in a position to have a go at you, they probably will do that now. This is an incident of our own making.”These guys are not thugs. These are good, honest, hard-working cricketers who sacrifice a lot to play for England. They’ve done some great things in an England shirt and I will back them on that to the hilt because I know them.Dawid Malan chats with England director of cricket Andrew Strauss•Getty Images

“But the perception of them and the reality is different at the moment and we’ve got to take steps to make sure that reality is what people perceive of the England cricket team, not something different. The last thing any of us want is to be in the news for the wrong reasons and I will clearly be reminding the players of their obligations.”I think the players needs to be smarter. That’s the reality, they are adults, intelligent adults, and at times they are not using that intelligence in the right way.”That will not mean an absolute ban on alcohol or nights out. Strauss knows, from his own experience, the need for players to escape the bubble of cricket and have a release for the sometimes intense life of a touring professional. But, with the ECB reeling from the fallout of the Stokes incident and trying hard to market an image of a wholesome sport that it suitable for the entire family, any semblance of scandal is best avoided. It is, as he admits, a tough balancing act.”I think it is unrealistic to say to someone ‘you’re going on a five-month tour and you can’t have a drop of alcohol’,” Straus said. “I think there are times in the build-up to a match and when you’re in a match when alcohol is inappropriate from a performance point of view but I don’t think that [an absolute ban] is appropriate.”It is impossible to stay in a hotel room for five months and keep your sanity. I know that for a fact. So people have to be allowed a degree of freedom to go out. And it would be one of the great shames of anyone’s career to go on a tour and not go out the hotel.”But there is no way that you can or should be putting yourself or the team or the ECB or the game of cricket in a position where people are making judgements about the sport on the back of what you’re doing on a night out. And that’s what the players need to understand.”

Du Plessis ruled out of four-day Test, de Villiers to lead

Faf du Plessis’ return to cricket after back and shoulder injuries has been delayed by a viral infection

Firdose Moonda in Port Elizabeth26-Dec-2017Faf du Plessis will miss the four-day, day-night Test against Zimbabwe, which starts on Boxing Day, after his recovery from back and shoulder injuries was delayed by a viral infection. AB de Villiers, who makes his return to Test whites for the first time since January 2016, will captain the side in place of du Plessis. The South African management is hopeful of having du Plessis fit in time for the first Test against India, which starts from January 5 in Cape Town.”Faf has been making steady progress from the respective back and shoulder injuries and until last week was on track to make a comeback in this match. He developed a respiratory tract infection which delayed his recovery this week, and subsequently made it difficult for him to make a full recovery in time for the match. He will continue to receive treatment and rehab from our physiotherapist, Craig Govender, and we are hopeful he will recover in time to lead the team for the first Test match against India,” Mohammed Moosajee, South Africa’s team manager, who is also a medical doctor said. That de Villiers will step in to captain is interesting given the events of January 2016 when he was appointed stand-in captain for the two Tests against England after Hashim Amla stepped down. He was then given the job on a full-time basis but was never able to assume the role. An injury kept de Villiers out of the series against New Zealand last August, Australia in November and Sri Lanka at the end of last year, before he missed the Test leg of the tours of New Zealand and England due to a self-imposed sabbatical from the longest format. De Villiers was widely expected to retire from the game completely but in August, he recommitted across all formats. However, in his time away, the South Africa Test team were forced to move on and many, including Vernon Philander, said they had. With de Villiers’ return, a selection conundrum, became apparent, especially as de Villiers’ most recent replacement, Temba Bavuma, has not only shown great promise but is also the only black African batsman in the squad. The selectors seemingly had to weigh dropping Bavuma, the only batsman not to score a century against Bangladesh, while choosing between de Villiers and du Plessis. But now that decision has been made for them, how they will balance the team for the India series remains to be seen.South Africa’s other selection question is choosing which of their four fit seamers to pick, with the likely toss-up between Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, to partner Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander.

Nottingham Forest Could Sign Konate 2.0 In £45m Titan

Nottingham Forest are still on the lookout for reinforcements to bolster the quality of their squad this season, and now a fresh update has emerged on the club's pursuit of a transfer target.

What's the latest Nottingham Forest transfer news?

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Nottingham Forest are in talks to sign Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah this summer.

Nixon revealed on his SubStack subscription platform: 'Nottingham Forest are in talks with Chelsea for versatile star Trevoh Chalobah,

'Forest want extra class and are prepared to buy or loan the Stanford Bridge squad man who can play centre half or midfield.

'Steve Cooper has been a fan of Chalobah for some time and would like to sign him – as he prepares to bring in money from the sale of Brennan Johnson.'

How good is Trevoh Chalobah?

After struggling to retain their Premier League status in a difficult relegation battle last season, the Garibaldi will need to do a lot better defensively over the current campaign to ensure they can compete comfortably and establish themselves as a top-level side.

As a result, the signing of Chalobah could be a great opportunity for Steve Cooper to bolster the defensive presence at The City Ground, adding the quality and experience needed to have a much more convincing campaign in the top flight.

Over 25 Premier League appearances last season, the 24-year-old – who has a reported £45m price tag – tallied up an 89% pass completion rate, completed an impressive 89% of his dribbles and won 57% of his duels combined, as per SofaScore. Impressive numbers indeed; this is a player who is brilliant at progressing the play.

trevor-chalobah-nottingham-forest-transfer-news-premier-league

Not only that, Chalobah can offer Forest a lot of versatility as he is not only a reliable centre-back but also has a wealth of experience in adapting his positioning to a defensive midfield role and right-back, which would be a valuable asset to Cooper over the season ahead and beyond.

In fact, Cooper could land his very own Ibrahima Konate with the Liverpool star named as one of the most comparable players over the last 12 months, as per FBref's similar player model.

Interestingly, that list contains some of the elite names in football; including Manuel Akanji, Eder Militao and Ruben Dias.

Chalobah and Konate happened to share several similarities in their outputs last season including pass completion rate (87.6% v 87%), shot-creating actions per 90 (0.90 v 0.99), successful take-ons (80% v 71.4%) and interceptions in total (24 v 26). It's clear, then, that these two players are comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Despite being in and out of the Chelsea squad over the years, the talented defender has been the recipient of high praise over his short career, with former Blues boss Frank Lampard waxing lyrical about Chalobah last season:

"He’s such a selfless lad. He doesn’t say ‘I want to play in this position’.

"Maybe (his best position) will become apparent, but I think he’s played really well in a back three for the club."

"He’s a delight to train with every day because he comes in with an enthusiasm, low maintenance, and when you talk about the things you want, he tries to do them on the pitch, which is a great thing."

With that being said, if Forest could strike up a deal for Chalobah this summer it would be a major coup for the club and would provide Cooper with a Premier League experienced talent who can offer huge quality this season and beyond.

Everton: Dyche could land £65k-p/w dream Beto partner

Everton remain active in their pursuit to bolster their attacking threat in the dying minutes and hours of Deadline Day, with an emerging on the club's pursuit of a potential target.

Who are Everton interested in signing?

According to TEAMtalk, Everton have been offered the opportunity to sign West Ham United winger Maxwel Cornet.

As per the report, the Hammers have told Cornet that he can leave today and have given the Toffees the green light to make an approach for the player with only a few hours remaining before the transfer window shuts at 11pm.

It is further claimed that Sean Dyche is keen on reuniting with Cornet after signing him for Burnley before he was sacked by the club in April last year.

What is Maxwel Cornet good at?

There is no doubt that adding as many attacking reinforcements as possible will be a huge priority should opportunities arise to do so this evening, and Cornet could be the perfect player to partner Beto in a new-look Everton front line this season.

The Toffees are yet to find the net at all in the league, although the newly-signed Everton centre-forward found the back of the net in their Carabao Cup clash in mid-week.

Dyche has made no secret about his allegiances to his former Burnley players since his arrival at Goodison Park, with both Dwight McNeil and Michael Keane becoming key features in the manager's starting XI, and would likely relish in the opportunity to bring in some of his previous prodigies to bolster the threat in front of goal.

As a result, the signing of Cornet – once hailed "dangerous" by Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright – makes perfect sense for the Everton boss and could be the last-minute signing to transform the troubling trajectory the club find themselves on already in the Premier League this season.

Maxwel-Cornet

After struggling with injuries upon joining the Hammers, the £65k-per-week ace undoubtedly played his best football in England during his time at Turf Moor – scoring nine goals and registering two assists over 28 appearances, with a goal contribution every 170 minutes, according to Transfermarkt.

Indeed, Cornet has had the opportunity to deliver five assists over his 22 appearances at West Ham which is a testament to his strong creativity and selflessness, something that could be a huge asset to new signing Beto if Dyche could revive the winger on the blue side of Merseyside.

The Everton manager has waxed lyrical in the past about the difference that Cornet can make when he scored a brace to deliver a much-needed point for Burnley back in 2021:

"We had two excellent goals by Maxwel. We brought him [Cornet] to add to what we do. He gives us that bit of difference we have been searching for."

With that being said, it would be seen as nothing short of a disaster if the Toffees don't add another attacker tonight considering they have failed to make a good start in the top-flight so far, so a chance to sign Cornet should not be ignored even at this late stage.

Man United must ditch £250k-p/w passenger after Arsenal loss

It may only be a few weeks into the new Premier League season but already Manchester United are proving themselves to be in a mess.

No one knows whether the Glazers are coming or going while Jadon Sancho is now at a war of words with Erik ten Hag on social media over his place in the team.

That would cause a stir even at the best of times, let alone a matter of hours after a gut-wrenching defeat to one of your rivals, Arsenal.

The feeling at Old Trafford could have been a great deal different had a few key moments gone their way.

Alejandro Garnacho's dart towards the penalty area with two minutes of normal time remaining should have won them the game. Indeed, it looked as though it had once he'd slotted the ball beyond Aaron Ramsdale.

Yet, the dreaded VAR ruled it out for offside before two late goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus saw proceedings at the Emirates end 3-1 in favour of the hosts.

The blame could be pointed in the direction of many on the away team on Sunday, namely the likes of Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire who were rather fed to the wolves during their late cameos. That said, Anthony Martial should also be asked questions of after another sorry display in attack.

How many goals has Anthony Martial scored for Man United?

When the Frenchman arrived in the Premier League all the way back in 2015, great things were expected.

So much was hoped, in fact, that a Ballon d'Or clause was woven into the agreement with Monaco over his transfer to United.

Like his immense potential, however, that is unlikely to be met.

At the age of 27, Martial is supposedly now in his prime but has never looked as though he'll be a huge success at the club. The very fact he was loaned to Sevilla for a short stint last year shows that not many rate him.

As a result, the idea of the £250k-per-week forward playing up top at the Emirates didn't bode well from minute one.

In fact, his display showed why Sancho has every right to be angry over his current alienation from the squad. Indeed, is is rather damning if you can't even get in the squad over a player with just 11 goals in the last two years.

How did Martial perform against Arsenal?

The attacker's performance was aptly summed up by just how lively Rasmus Hojlund looked on debut.

Thrown into the game at Martial's expense in the 67th minute, he immediately gave Ten Hag's side a better focal point. Hustling and bustling his way to get on the end of every ball, he gave Gabriel more of a run for his money than the former Monaco man did in over an hour.

Although he completed all 11 of his passes, the fact the France international only managed 18 touches – one every six minutes – said it all.

That was fewer times than both goalkeepers, Aaron Ramsdale (28) and Andre Onana (56), while both stoppers registered more passes too.

Martial certainly cut an isolated figure, managing just one shot in the entire game, while winning only two of his five duels.

Battered and bruised by both Gabriel and William Saliba, it was an afternoon to forget for a player who once promised so much.

He used to the Hojlund-like figure that United pinned their hopes on but it would not be a surprise if the Norwegian soon leap-frogs him in the pecking order.

Judging by his cameo on Sunday, one where he looked to run the channels and spin in behind, Martial could find himself benched once the international break finishes.

Slammed for his "anonymity" by MEN's Samuel Luckhurst and dubbed a "passenger" by broadcaster Harry Symeou, there really is no better way to describe his impact in north London last weekend.

Nothing much happened for Martial in a game that rather summed up his topsy-turvy stint in English football.

If United weren't so short of options at centre-forward, his career under Ten Hag would surely have been spent. Either way, he simply cannot be a reliable option anymore for the Dutch manager.
