The batter, whose career was most notable for his opening partnership with Tamim Iqbal, played the last of his 39 Tests in 2019
Mohammad Isam13-Nov-2024Imrul Kayes has announced his retirement from Test and first-class cricket. He said in a video message on his Facebook page that his last red-ball match will be Khulna Division’s National Cricket League (NCL) match against Dhaka Division at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka next week. He will, however, continue to play white-ball cricket.”On November 16, I will retire from Test and first-class cricket. It is the most difficult and emotional decision of my life,” he said.Imrul played the last of his 39 Tests at Eden Gardens in 2019, in the first day-night Test match in India. Batting mostly at the top of the order and occasionally at No. 3, he made 1797 runs at an average of 24.28, with three centuries and four fifties.Imrul’s Test career was however more about his opening partnership with Tamim Iqbal. They remain Bangladesh’s most prolific opening pair by far, having added 2336 runs in 53 innings. The next-highest aggregate for a Bangladesh opening pair currently is 665 runs between Javed Omar and Nafees Iqbal. Imrul and Tamim’s average first-wicket partnership of 45.80 is also the best of any Bangladesh opening pair. They put on four century stands, the first of them a 185-run partnership at Lord’s in 2010, and the last a world-record 312 against Pakistan in Khulna in 2015. It helped Bangladesh save the Test match after conceding a 296-run first-innings lead, and remains the only 300-plus opening stand in the third or fourth innings of a Test match. The last time they opened together was in the 2018 home Test series against Sri Lanka.Imrul is now 70 runs short of the 8000-run mark in first-class cricket. He will have a chance to complete the feat in Mirpur, where his farewell game begins on November 16.
Manchester United are working on a proposal that could reach £60m+ to sign a Cole Palmer-like star after Benjamin Sesko.
Leipzig star Sesko chooses Man Utd move over Newcastle

The towering RB Leipzig striker has chosen to join Man Utd over Premier League rivals Newcastle United and looks set to become INEOS’ most expensive addition of the summer.
Sesko has agreed to a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with United’s opening offer to the Bundesliga side being worth just under £74m.
A proposed move to Manchester has raised some concerns from Sir Alex Ferguson’s former assistant Rene Meulensteen, who drew comparisons to Rasmus Hojlund.
“If he scores in the first three or four games and hits the ground running then he could be the answer for the club, but there’s a chance that won’t happen.
“If you look at Hojlund, he joined Atalanta and performed well alongside the rest of the team and then joined United. The same can be said for Sesko – the Bundesliga is a very different league to the Premier League, so he’ll need to adapt.
“Has Sesko got potential? 100%, but he’s still young and developing and he isn’t the finished article.”

Sesko, Cunha and Mbeumo may well be Amorim’s first-choice front three for the opening day clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford, but by the looks of it, INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe aren’t stopping with the Slovenia international.
Man Utd and INEOS going all out for £60m+ Fermin Lopez
According to a report from Spain, Man Utd are now ‘going all out’ to sign Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez. It is claimed that those on the board at Old Trafford are ‘working on a proposal’ that could hit €70m (£60.1m).
However, it is added that Barcelona ‘doesn’t want to lose one of the most promising players to emerge from its youth system in recent years’, but may need to raise funds through player sales.
Therefore, Man Utd are ‘confident that their sporting project and the possibility of offering him a leading role will entice’ Lopez.
At the age of 22, Lopez is going from strength to strength with the Catalan giants and is now valued at a career-high €50m by Transfermarkt.
Capable of playing as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder or left-winger, Lopez is under contract at the Nou Camp until 2029. In total, the Spain international has made 88 senior appearances for Barcelona, scoring 19 goals and providing 11 assists during that time.
Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has also been impressed with what he’s seen from Lopez, comparing the Barca man to Chelsea star Cole Palmer.
Former Arsenal man Jermaine Pennant has told Football FanCast that the Gunners should be targeting their next big move in the coming weeks, having already wrapped up a deal for Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres in recent days.
Latest on Arsenal's remaining transfer business
It’s over. It’s finally over.
Having toyed with the idea of plumping for RB Leipzig starlet, Benjamin Sesko, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has steered the club in a different direction, having wrapped up a belated deal for Swedish supertstar, Gyokeres.
The £55m striker – who scored 97 goals in just 102 games in Lisbon – is the latest addition amid a hectic summer of activity for those at the Emirates, with the 27-year-old joining Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera and Martin Zubimendi in bolstering Mikel Arteta’s ranks.
Six signings in the can, although there appears to be room for a little more, with the north Londoners also said to be in the mix for Real Madrid sensation, Rodrygo, amid his uncertain future at the Bernabeu.
That search for a left-winger also seen Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon emerge as a potential option, while elsewhere, the Dutch duo of Xavi Simons and Jorrel Hato have also both been linked – albeit with the young pairing looking set to join Chelsea.
Perhaps the most concrete target remains that of Eberechi Eze, however, with that potential acquisition one that is already sparking notable excitement…
Pennant thinks Arsenal could make a "great signing"
With Gyokeres now signed, sealed and delivered, the Gunners are moving on to new targets, with the aforementioned Pennant – speaking exclusively to Football FanCast on behalf of Adventure Gamers – tipping his former side to tie up a deal for Crystal Palace talisman, Eze.
The England international – who scored at Wembley to help steer Palace to FA Cup glory last season – has been earmarked as a leading target for Arteta and co throughout the summer window, having spent the past five years at Selhurst Park.
Latest reports have indicated that the north Londoners have even agreed an initial fee for the £100k-per-week playmaker, with Eze fresh off the back of having chipped in with 25 goals and assists in all competitions in 2024/25.

Enzo Maresca faces the prospect of being unable to register new signings in his Champions League squad next season if Chelsea don’t balance their books by trimming the squad.
This is due to a settlement with UEFA after they were fined for breaking FFP rules (Kaveh Solhekol), even if they’re in good financial stead right now when it comes to the Premier League’s separate PSR laws.

Chelsea banked a seismic £87.5 million for winning the Club World Cup and have made around £100 million in player sales already, following the departures of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Basir Humphreys, Noni Madueke, Marcus Bettinelli, Djordje Petrovic and Mathis Amougou.
However, pressure from UEFA lingers, and a host of unwanted players remain on the Chelsea books with just weeks to go before deadline day.
Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Renato Veiga, Tosin Adarabioyo, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu, Armando Broja, Tosin Adarabioyo, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, João Félix and Alfie Gilchrist have all been linked with the exit door this window, with progress now being made on shipping out a couple of them.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Felix is in talks over a return to boyhood club Benfica, while RB Leipzig have opened negotiations for Chukwuemeka as Chelsea try to sign their playmaker, Xavi Simons, in a separate deal (Florian Plettenberg).
According to journalist Simon Phillips, striker Nicolas Jackson is another realistic, high-profile sacrifice, as the Senegalese makes a push to leave behind-the-scenes.
Nicolas Jackson tells agents to seal Chelsea exit this summer
As per the reporter, via his Substack, Jackson has instructed his agents to find him a new club.
Nicolas Jackson
“Jackson became frustrated and unhappy at Chelsea last season initially due to the abuse and what he felt was over criticism from some of the fan base,” wrote Phillips.
“Jackson is concerned about his game time and would ideally want to move on from the club this summer.
“It is true that he would also be content to stay if there are no chances to leave, but it is his preference to leave the club, and as our man Danny Windsor has reported on his new platform The Blues Feed, Jackson has his agents working on moves to get him out of Chelsea this summer by offering him around to clubs.
“He is keen on a move to Manchester United but so far it’s only been agent talks and United have not yet indicated that they will make a move to sign him. They are interested though but have other targets ahead of him for now.
“Jackson knows that Chelsea have a high valuation on his head, and he is not exactly actively asking to leave. But his preference is to move on.”
The former Villarreal star bagged 13 goals and six assists in all competitions last term, with pundit Joe Cole even calling him one of Chelsea’s “most important” players.
However, Jackson is now set to compete with both Joao Pedro and Liam Delap for a place in Maresca’s starting line-up, and he didn’t exactly have the best end to 2024/2025.
The 24-year-old scored just one Premier League goal after the turn of 2025, and despite getting on the scoresheet in their Conference League final win over Real Betis, Jackson was sent off at the Club World Cup – playing just 30 minutes of the competition thereafter.
It could be time for a new chapter, and Man United seem like the ideal landing spot with their big-name status, not to mention Ruben Amorim’s glaring need for a striker.
However, the price for Jackson is a minimum £80 million (Sky Sports), so it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will pay it.
Harry Kane has spoken out in defence of new Bayern Munich team-mate Nicolas Jackson, with the odd question being asked of why the Senegalese striker has been drafted in by the Bundesliga giants. Kane has pointed out that the lively frontman put in plenty of encouraging Premier League performances for Chelsea when leading the line for an often inconsistent outfit.
Jackson embracing new challenge in Germany
Jackson helped the Blues to Conference League and FIFA Club World triumphs in 2024-25, but is now embracing a new challenge. He bid farewell to Stamford Bridge late in the summer transfer window.

He has a contract in England through to 2033, with it considered to be unlikely that a £70 million ($95m) purchase option in his season-long loan will be triggered – through the number of appearances he makes – or taken up by Bayern.
Jackson provides alternative to Kane
Jackson will find himself filling back-up duties behind prolific England captain Kane for as long as Bayern’s talismanic striker is fully fit and firing. He will, however, provide useful competition and a rotation option for Vincent Kompany to draft in when required.

Kane – who knows all about life in the Premier League from his record-breaking spell at Tottenham – has said of Jackson, who made his Bayern debut off the bench in a 5-0 demolition of Hamburg: "If you follow the Premier League, you can see that he has many good attributes. He creates a lot of chances. And he's here to help the team. We're already working together in training and finishing together.
"I feel he can have a big impact for us this season, with his speed, his movement, and his goals. He's a great addition for us. I didn't know him very well. We played against him in the summer [England vs Senegal], and he made a very good impression, he played a really good game."
Wolves are “talking” with a “very good” Spain international over a summer move to Molineux, according to a fresh update from journalist Graeme Bailey.
Wolves planning for friendly as Fosun chase signings
Wanderers host Celta Vigo in a pre-season friendly this weekend, as they continue to prepare for their return to Premier League action, with the opener at home to Manchester City edging closer all the time.
Having lost 2-1 away to Girona last Sunday, a return to winning ways would be a welcome boost for Wolves, but Vitor Pereira will know that fitness and tactical work are more important than any result in the summer games.

The Wanderers boss will also know that further reinforcements are needed in his squad in the final three weeks or so of the summer transfer window, with a host of names linked in recent days.
Wolves have reportedly made contact with Borussia Dortmund ace Julian Ryerson, who is capable of thriving as a right-back and a wing-back, perhaps being seen as a strong replacement option for Nelson Semedo. Meanwhile, Liverpool winger Ben Doak is also said to be a target, with the Reds potentially sanctioning his exit this summer.
Wolves "talking" with Spain defender over move
Now, speaking to Molineux News, Bailey has talked up the idea of Wolves signing Celta and Spain defender Oscar Mingueza this summer, mentioning talks taking place after being a target for two Premier League clubs back in January.
“I know they’re talking. Oscar Mingueza they quite like at Celta Vigo. He was on the radar of West Ham and Villa in January. The problem is, with him, is that they’re trying to give him a new contract, so that’s not going to be easy. We’ll see where that one goes.”

Mingueza is a top-quality player who has now won four caps for European champions Spain, proving to be a strong potential long-term successor to Dani Carvajal at right-back.

The 26-year-old has also made a combined 166 appearances for Celta and Barcelona, with scout Jacek Kulig hailing him as “very good” in the past.
Mingueza has been a highly-rated player for some, as the above post from Kulig outlines, but at 26, Wolves would be signing a player at the peak of his powers, rather than a young player who may take time to hit the ground running.
The Spaniard bagged four goals and six assists in La Liga last season, showing the quality he can offer in the attacking third, and he would help fill the void left by the departed Semedo.
Tottenham sent scouts to watch Monaco play Auxerre in Ligue 1 this weekend, as they continue to run the rule over attacking midfielder Maghnes Akliouche. The club were linked with a summer swoop to sign the 23-year-old and appear to be keeping a watching brief on the young forward. During the summer, Spurs signed Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.
Spurs scout Monaco star
Per TBR Football, Spurs sent scouts to watch Monaco and were interested in the progress of Akliouche specifically, along with Vanderson and Lamine Camara. Akliouche was linked with a summer move to north London but the club signed Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig instead.

Watching brief continues
Manager Thomas Frank appears to maintain an interest in the versatile young ace, who can play on either flank, in the 10 or up front. He has enjoyed a sterling start to the season, scoring two goals in four games.
Interest in providing depth
While Akliouche would be a headline signing, Spurs are also monitoring Vanderson as potential full-back depth, with Pedro Porro, Djed Spence, and Destiny Udogie currently the specialist full-backs in the squad; Archie Gray has also covered at right-back but is naturally a midfielder. Camara, meanwhile, operates primarily as a midfielder.
