Manchester United: Alexis Sanchez seeking an exit is a promising sign

What a disaster Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United has been. Indeed, the Daily Star are reporting he’s told his agent he’d take a wage cut to leave Old Trafford after a truly horrific spell at the club for both the player and the fans reading this. If that’s true, he’d be right to request a move and start anew elsewhere.

He’d certainly have to take a wage cut to move away, but most would think Sanchez cares more about regaining the form he showed at Arsenal and being named in the same breath as some of the best attackers in the world once against. It’s just not happened for him at United and sometimes it’s okay to cut your losses and make a change.

He seemed disillusioned under Jose Mourinho. He didn’t receive enough service, and when he did there was a lack of players around him so he’d lose the ball by trying too much. Now, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the system suits him more, but it seems he’s behind Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the pecking order.

Still, despite all that’s happened since his move, a player of his quality shouldn’t be sat on the bench.

Solskjaer is perhaps right to have Martial and Rashford playing ahead of him at the minute though. That’s due to their great form but also the Chilean being resigned to the fact he’ll never live up to the expectation placed on him when he arrived. Most United fans have made their mind up on him and mentality that must be hard for the 30-year-old to work back from.

There’d surely be plenty of suitors across Europe who would love to acquire his skills, just as Pep Guardiola and Manchester City did before he chose United, so he’s not a lost cause. He just needs to be the main man at a club again and have players providing him with the service and movement that he works best with.

He still has another two or three years at the very top of his game, so why would he stay at United when, at the moment, they’re not winning trophies or giving him enough minutes?

It’s time for one of the most exciting players in Europe to find his spark again, and he can only do that by forgetting Old Trafford.

Aston Villa fans react as Scott Hogan an unused substitute in Sheffield derby

[ad_pod ]

Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan was an unused substitute for loan side Sheffield United in their 0-0 draw with arch-rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Monday night, and Villa fans were quick to react on Twitter.

The 26-year-old joined the Blades on loan until the end of the season during the January transfer window following a difficult spell with the Midlands outfit, and even the fact that he was working under the manager who oversaw his best form at Brentford wasn’t enough to see him remain at Villa Park until May.

The Republic of Ireland international has hardly hit the ground running n Yorkshire either though, and his latest no-show means that he has still only played 90 minutes – all of which came against Reading – of Championship football for Chris Wilder’s men, failing to come off of the bench on every other occasion.

Aston Villa supporters took to social media to have their say on Hogan, and while one said: “Good to see Scott Hogan back to doing what he does best, watching from the bench”, another said: “Something ain’t right with that fella”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Matthijs de Ligt would take Liverpool’s defensive to a whole new level in the summer

Jurgen Klopp must add defensive reinforcements to his squad during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The German finally found the answers to Liverpool’s defensive woes by building a formidable defence centred around Virgil van Dijk. Both Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold have blossomed into crucial first team players whilst Alisson Becker’s impact has been massive since joining from Roma. Van Dijk’s long-term partner in defence remains uncertain.

Joe Gomez had performed admirably before picking up an injury against Burnley – another long setback for the youngster. Both Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip have chequered injury histories which has forced Klopp to use Fabinho in defence on occasion. It’s clear the Reds need to add another quality defender to their ranks.

One man Klopp should be targeting is Ajax wonderkid – Matthijs de Ligt. Valued at £58.5m by Transfermarkt, the Dutchman now captains the club after graduating from their famous youth academy. He is widely regarded as one of the club’s best ever youth prospects after establishing himself as one of the top defenders in the Eredivisie.

The youngster has been tipped to move to one of Europe’s elite in the future and partnering him with his international team-mate van Dijk would be a masterstroke from Liverpool. Indeed, he is an excellent defender but also excels with the ball at his feet. The 19-year-old displays a wonderful range of passing for a defender, allowing him to start attacks from the back – such quality on the ball allows him to fill in at defensive midfield if necessary making him a useful option to have at Klopp’s disposal. His vast amount of experience at such a young age should mean that adapting to life in England shouldn’t be a problem.

It would take a mammoth fee to lure him from Holland, however, Liverpool’s defence would be complete for years to come if Klopp could convince the starlet to move to Merseyside. Indeed, even former Dutch international Rene van der Gijp urged him to move to Anfield (as per the Liverpool Echo) earlier this month.

Liverpool fans, thoughts?

Darren Moore is letting West Bromwich Albion down by underperforming

West Bromwich Albion’s season seems to have come to a bizarre standstill.

After producing some scintillating attacking football all season and even looking primed for automatic qualification at one point, they’re now winless and goalless in their last two encounters.

Indeed, the embarrassing 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Leeds United proved that perhaps Darren Moore isn’t the right man for promotions dreams after-all.

Moore’s been given a luxurious amount of options for a Championship squad, with West Brom even financing moves in January by bringing in Jefferson Montero and Jacob Murphy to further boost their tantalizing attack. However, their inability to form a strong defensive shape has come back to haunt West Brom time and again this season.

The fact that they’ve conceded 47 goals, the second most among any top-half side, proves how Moore just get his defensive combination correctly. They managed to hold onto many defenders from last season, but Moore hasn’t done much in improving them.

He’s gotten the most out of his impressive attackers, yet his side’s tendency to switch off during games and error-prone nature has undone his good work. The Baggies could be through to the playoffs due to their stunning attack, led by the brilliant Jay Rodriguez, but their poor defensive and slow midfield might cost them progression beyond that.

Moore needs to understand his side’s weaknesses and work on them before it’s too late.

If The Baggies keep on leaking in goals, they might have to end up battling in the Championship for another season.

Everton will never challenge big six by signing player like Che Adams

Everton fans certainly won’t be excited by this weekend’s transfer rumours! The Sun on Sunday (page 59, via HITC) are reporting the club sent their top scout to watch Birmingham forward Che Adams. Great, right?

Well, no.

If this is the level of player they’re looking at, there’s no chance they’ll join the big six.

The Everton hierarchy have talked a good game for a few years now. There’s the promise of attacking football, a new stadium and money being available, with a huge amount being spent already. It’s looking positive, but they need to start investing more heavily if they’re to bridge the gap to the big boys.

Marco Silva’s attacking intentions are clear, and they’ve got a young squad. They now need to add some world-class talent to push them into the European spaces, particularly a striker. Che Adams is not world class by any stretch of the imagination and signing him would be a punch in the face to Evertonians who are hoping for success.

He could be a great prospect for the future, and he’s scored 21 goals for Birmingham this season, but Everton shoudn’t be the place where he’s tested in the Premier League. They need an established striker with experience at the highest level to take the club to new heights.

The 22-year-old, who is valued at £6.3 million (by Transfermarkt), would be a major disappointment to the Goodison faithful who need some big signings in summer to prove their club are planning on going places. If Everton did sign Adams there’d be so much pressure on him to perform like a Premier League star that he’d most likely crumble under it all.

If the Toffees are serious about catching up with the top six, they need to stop scouting in the Championship and cast their net across the best teams in Europe’s top five leagues. Buying players at the level you aim to grow to is the only way to reach the top.

Welcome: Sheffield United fans react as WWE superstar Mick Foley becomes a Blade

[ad_pod ]

Sheffield United fans on Twitter have been reacting on Monday morning as WWE legend Mick Foley announced that he is now a Blade.

Foley posted a picture of himself in a club shirt on the social media platform with the words “I am officially a Blade,” much to the delight of the fan base.

This came after striker Billy Sharp mimicked the ex-WWE wrestler and current commentator’s famous ‘Mr Socko’ celebration back in January.

It was Sharp who sent the 53-year-old the jersey to parade on Twitter so that fans could officially welcome Foley into the United family.

“Cactus Jack” has previously shown an interest in English football, often appearing on Soccer AM for Sky Sports, but never before pledging allegiance to a certain team.

Supporters of the club currently chasing automatic promotion to the Premier League reacted very positively indeed and were extremely proud of the announcement, repeating “he’s a Blade” and telling him that he’ll forever be one, with one even commenting “this is the best thing ever” in response to the “surreal” news.

Tottenham fans take to Twitter to rubbish £70 million Chiesa rumours

After going an entire year without spending anything in the transfer market, the Lilywhites are set for a big summer. Rumours are already starting to flood in, and one of those, from The Daily Mail, claims that Mauricio Pochettino is looking to splash £70 million on Fiorentina’s young winger, Federico Chiesa.

The last player that was signed at Tottenham was another winger, the slightly older Lucas Moura. However, in his time at the club, Lucas has failed to really make his mark. The Brazilian’s directness and ability with the ball at his feet make him a good player on paper, but in practice, he hasn’t quite clicked. However, 21-year-old Chiesa would be an entirely different story.

The young Italian has scored 11 goals and registered eight assists in his 30 games in all competitions this season, and that kind of end product at an age where he can still be moulded by a manager like Mauricio Pochettino makes him the kind of player that the Lilywhites should be after. After years of being stung in the market, though, the fans have no faith in securing a £70 million player.

You can read the Lilywhites’ thoughts on the Chiesa links here:

The Lilywhites are already writing this one off and have no faith in bringing in anyone for £17 million, let alone £70 million.

Liverpool fans react after Fulham mock them in defence of Roy Hodgson

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Fulham made fun of their decision to sack Roy Hodgson and appoint Kenny Dalglish.

In a regular section of the Cottagers’ matchday programme called ‘The List’, in which they mull over three people who would perhaps have been better served staying at the club, the west London outfit aimed a number of insults at the Reds.

It was Fulham who Hodgson was in charge of before Liverpool came calling, where he then endured a terrible time in charge at Anfield before being sacked having won just seven of his 20 league games in charge.

The aforementioned article in the programme reads: “Realising that Roy was not going to win the league immediately and angered by his failure to buy the world’s best players, who would obviously jump at the chance to sign for the team that had dominated Europe a mere three decades earlier, fans quickly lost patience.

“Setting the time circuits to 1991, the club’s executives piled into the waiting DeLorean and floored it to ’88, returning with a fresh-faced and energetic Kenny Dalglish, ready to usher in a new era of dominance spearheaded by future club legend Andy Carroll, a shrewd purchase at just £35m.”

It can’t be denied that Hodgson’s time in charge of Liverpool was a complete and utter failure, but Fulham have shown a huge lack of respect towards Dalglish in their programme for the recent 2-1 loss to Chelsea.

Obviously, given his legendary status at the club, Liverpool fans on Twitter weren’t going to stand by and allow their Premier League rivals speak so poorly of Dalglish…
