[ad_pod ]

Wednesday’s Leeds transfer roundup noted a former Premier League winner being offered to the Whites, a 23-year-old agreeing a move to a League Two club and interest in a 15-year-old. Today’s edition brings you an update on the future of a former Newcastle man, a star midfielder demanding a pay-rise and a blow in the pursuit of a forward.

Anita is negotiating compensation package

According to Greek outlet SDNA, Vurnon Anita is in the process of negotiating his compensation package as he attempts to leave the Elland Road outfit this summer. Panathinaikos are reportedly interested in the 30-year-old Dutchman.

Phillips wants big pay-rise

Kalvin Phillips is holding out for a very lucrative offer from Leeds this summer if he is to turn down Premier League interest and stay with the Yorkshire outfit according to Football Insider. The 23-year-old apparently wants a deal that will see him earn more than £30,000 a week.

Knock-back in Kent pursuit

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Liverpool have blocked approaches from both Leeds and Rangers in regards to a loan move for Ryan Kent. The 22-year-old spent last year with the Scottish Premier League side and scored six goals in 27 league appearances.

Spurs given major Ndombele boost by latest Aulas quotes

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Tanguy Ndombele is seeking a departure from Lyon this summer amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, the club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas has said, per GFFN.

What’s the word?

Ndombele has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs throughout the summer transfer window.

Football.London have reported that the club are in talks with the midfielder over a potential deal that would surely eclipse the £42m that they paid to sign Davinson Sanchez from Ajax.

And Aulas has now confirmed that Ndombele could depart in this transfer window.

He said: “We’ve done we needed to do in terms of departures. It would have to be very substantial offers to advance with Tanguy, who would prefer to leave.

“If he left – which isn’t the case today – we would look to recruit someone with experience. For the moment nothing has happened, but the door is ajar.

“If Ndombele left, we have players to target and Thiago Mendes is one of them. Ndombele is pragmatic – he hasn’t said ‘I must leave tomorrow’. He is being chased by big clubs and when they come you have to listen. I haven’t spoken to him since his international duty.

“No, there is no end date for Ndombele is leave. I shouldn’t say it, but we don’t need to raise money before 30 June when we have to present our accounts. If he wants to stay, he’s very welcome.”

The deal to do

This would be an incredible deal for Spurs.

Ndombele would be a genuine marquee signing as the club look to secure their first acquisition since January 2018.

The likes of Barcelona and Juventus have also been linked with the France international, who has made 96 appearances for the French club.

If Spurs can get the deal done, it may be all they need this summer.

They haven’t replaced Mousa Dembele, who left in January, but securing Ndombele would do that at a stroke.

One transfer doesn’t feel like much for a club who haven’t actually completed one in over a year, but the Frenchman would go a long way to solving the main issue the club currently faces: a weakness in midfield.

Arsenal & Spurs supposed boost could be a red herring

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Sky Sports claim Arsenal and Tottenham have been “given a boost” after Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos was left out of the club’s squad for the International Champions Cup, per the official ICC website.

What’s the word?

Ceballos has been linked with both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal this summer.

Indeed, Football FanCast understands that Spurs are in talks with the Spanish club over a deal that would see Ceballos move on loan to north London, though they would like to include a purchase option that stands at £45m.

And now a Sky Sports transfer blog entry on Friday (July 12, 07:55) claims that both clubs have been given a boost as they look to secure Ceballos’ signature.

The Spain international, who played for the Under-21s as they won the European Championship this summer, is keen on a loan move away from Santiago Bernabeu, per Sky.

A red herring

This is business as usual from Real Madrid.

Ceballos participated in the Under-21 Championships and, as such, is likely being given an extended rest; this is probably absolutely nothing to do with transfer negotiations.

Indeed, Jesus Vallejo, his Spain Under-21 and Real team-mate who played five times in La Liga last season, has also been left out of the travelling squad.

While certain outlets like to get a little bit over-excited in the summer, and although there is a distinct possibility Ceballos could move to the Premier League in the coming weeks, this looks like a red herring for both Spurs and Arsenal fans – something that’s, at best, coincidental.

This saga could well have a few more twists and turns yet.

Leeds teen Ryan Edmondson could be big winner as Phil Hay rules out striker move

[ad_pod ]This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more… According to reliable Leeds United insider Phil Hay on Twitter, the club are unlikely to sign a new striker before the summer transfer window slams shut, and it could give youngster Ryan Edmondson a big chance to impress.

On the chalkboard

Given the injury issues Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe encountered last season, it seemed that it could be a real possibility that the Yorkshire outfit would dip into the market to sign a new centre-forward ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Roofe has been linked with an Elland Road exit with Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion among those monitoring his situation according to Sky Sports – he only has one year left on his contract and there has been no update on a potential new deal for him.

However, the trusted Hay doesn’t expect a striker incoming unless the 26-year-old departs in the next fortnight or so, which could hand some of the Whites’ younger players a huge opportunity.

Edmondson to erupt?

It may well happen – especially seeing as he already has two substitute appearances for the first team under his belt, including a debut in 2018.

The talented teenager may have put himself to the forefront of Marcelo Bielsa’s mind with a hat-trick in the pre-season friendly win against Tadcaster Albion last week, as he once again showed that he is capable in front of goal.

The 18-year-old finished as top scorer for the U23s last term with his 19th goal coming in April, and he is in good physical shape given his tender years – that in particular is something which suggests he is ready to make the step up into what can be a tough Championship division at times.

With Roofe being pictured with a leg brace on Down Under and Bamford looking far from convincing in front of goal so far during pre-season, Edmondson could easily get the call sooner rather than later with the league opener against Bristol City only a week-and-a-half away.

He certainly looks to have the potential already to push Bamford, who is still yet to really make his mark in a Leeds shirt.

Additionally, he could easily be the next breakthrough talent under Bielsa and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton in 2018/19.

Manchester United: AC Milan looking at the possibility of signing Eric Bailly

AC Milan are looking into the possibility of signing Eric Bailly as an alternative to Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

AC Milan have been targeting a move for Lovren all summer, after identifying the Croatian as a centre-back target for this transfer window.

After Lovren, Bailly has been identified as a back-up target for the Rossoneri. The Ivorian joined Manchester United in the summer of 2016 for a fee of around £30m.

Jurgen Klopp has already come out and said that he is unlikely to spend big in this transfer market, so it is unlikely that Lovren will be moved on this summer, as they would need to fork out and replace the Croatian if he was to leave.

If this is the case, it opens the door for AC Milan to go for Bailly. And losing Bailly wouldn’t harm Manchester United, after bad performances from the Ivorian last season, with ESPN describing him as a “calamity” in a 3-2 defeat to Brighton.

With Harry Maguire being chased by the club, who have already had one bid rejected by Leicester City, and Chris Smalling and Phil Jones signing long-term contracts just last season, Manchester United should do their best to sell Bailly this summer, as they have options to deal with the loss.

Bailly struggled last season, making just 18 appearances in all competitions, as he was seemingly frozen out by both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. As well as the lack of appearances, Bailly also endured a nightmare performance away at Paris Saint-Germain as he was taken off after just 35 minutes.

Bailly struggled massively last season and needs to be moved on by the club. With a value of £22.5m on Transfermarkt, Manchester United could recoup a sizable fee for the 25-year-old which can be reinvested into the squad.

How Leicester City could line up in Premier League 2019/20 opener

[long_read]

Leicester City host Wolves in their opening game of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign on Sunday 11th August, and they will be hoping to get the edge over their seventh-place rivals – last term Nuno Espirito Santo’s men finished five points ahead.

Brendan Rodgers and the club’s hierarchy made some impressive additions to the squad this summer, including the record signing of Youri Tielemans, who made a profound impact at the King Power Stadium following his January loan move from Monaco, and Ayoze Perez for £30m.

The highly-rated Tielemans, whom Leicester had to fight off Tottenham and Manchester United for, adds some crucial creativity from midfield, while Perez should make the perfect replacement for the departed Shinji Okazaki, who was renowned for his work-rate – the Spaniard completed a solid 1.6 tackles and 1.1 interceptions last season, according to WhoScored.

As former Celtic boss Rodgers gears up for his first full campaign as Leicester boss, we take a look at four different ways in which the Northern Irishman could set out his XI for the opening game, including dream and nightmare scenarios.

Let’s take a look…

[snack_break title=”Dream XI”]

Leicester pulled off one of the deals of the season when they brought James Maddison to the King Power Stadium last summer and the attacking midfielder will be crucial if the Foxes are to be the ‘best of the rest’ – or even better – in 2019/20, so he’s likely to be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

The arrival of Dennis Praet, who is also a target for Arsenal, would mean the 2015/16 champions have one of the best creative cores in the Premier League, with the technical Tielemans dropping deep to complement tough-tackler Wilfred Ndidi.

Sampdoria man Praet is influential both on and off the ball, completing 1.9 tackles and averaging a passing accuracy of 87.3% in Serie A last season.

With this attacking-midfield trio, Jamie Vardy will have by far his best chance since of repeating his 2015/16 goalscoring exploits – the pacey Englishman managed an impressive 24 strikes that season.

Back in central defence, the Foxes will be praying they can fend off interest in Harry Maguire and leave their defence in excellent shape.

[snack_break title=”Nightmare XI”]

If Maguire does leave, however, his departure would likely see Filip Benkovic, whom Rodgers worked with during his time at Celtic, take his spot in the back line.

Leicester’s defence would be stripped of another vital asset if Juventus came calling for Ricardo Pereira, who is being lined up as a replacement for Joao Cancelo according to The Sun.

Meanwhile, Ben Chilwell’s potential exit could see a return to the starting XI for Christian Fuchs who, despite being one of Leicester’s legendary title-winners, is certainly past his best.

[snack_break title=”Progressive XI”]

If Leicester are to prolong their impressive development since returning to the top flight, then investing both time and money in the younger players is a must.

Fortunately for Rodgers, there are plenty of talents waiting in the wings for their time to shine – none have more to prove than Kelechi Iheanacho, who is still yet to take off since signing for £25m two years ago.

First summer signing James Justin, who enjoyed a stellar campaign with League One winners Luton Town and chalked up an impressive 12 goal contributions, offers great competition at both full-back positions and should certainly be given ample opportunities.

Fousseni Diabate, 23, showed some promise while on loan at Turkish outfit Sivasspor last term and, should Rodgers give him a chance, should at least keep Perez and Rachid Ghezzal on their toes.

[snack_break title=”Most likely XI”]

At this point there is every chance that Maguire will be on his way to Manchester this summer, as much as it will pain the Foxes faithful.

Fortunately, Leicester have some solid depth at centre-back and Maguire’s exit could signal the beginning of a glowing Premier League career for Benkovic, who was described as “absolutely brilliant” by Rodgers earlier this year.

Hamza Choudhury, Youri Tielemans and Wilfred Ndidi should form a stark spine at the heart of midfield, while Perez will surely be a strong contender to slot immediately into the starting XI.
